To start off, you are correct in saying Baptism in the Spirit, for it is Jesus who does the Baptizing. Second of all, some people are afraid that something bad will happen to them. But don't be afraid the Lord Jesus won't allow anything Satanic to happen to one of His children, and it never hurts to pray for protection. Another point before I explain in depth, don't seek the Baptism in the Holy Spirit just to speak in tongues or to operate in the gifts. These gifts are definitely important and will be a result of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Instead, seek the Baptism in the Holy Spirit to get closer to Jesus and to be His witness. Please read Acts 10:44-48 and Acts 19. In preparing yourself, begin to pray and ask Jesus to come close to your heart. Tell Him that you believe that He died and rose for you, and that you accept Him...all of Him. That you believe that He is your Lord and Savior and the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit and you want Him to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. Get together with your friend who is baptized in the Holy Spirit and pray together. Don't be discouraged it took me 2 years to finally receive this blessed gift. Some people receive it right away. One thing is for sure, it will truly change your life. You will feel so close to God and the gifts of the Spirit will begin to manifest in your life. Study 1 Corinthians 14. God bless you as you seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I have just recently heard of Baptism in the Spirit. A friend of mine talked to me about it and I have read two books that have helped me to know or understand this a little bit more. One was Holy Spirit Make your Home in Me and I can't remember the title of the other one, but it was by Cantalamessa. Can you please tell me about Baptism in the Spirit....if you ask for certain gifts or how it happens, how to prepare for it. My friend told me that she would pray over me to receive the Baptism of the Spirit when I was ready. How does a person prepare to be prayed over to receive the Baptism of the Spirit? Thanks for any information you can provide.
