Can't wait for our classes to begin. They keep saying they're waiting to get a group together. Guess I'll have to wait till next Easter for my conversion.

Not judging, in the least. Just sharing what i have been told. Remember... God forgives. There are far worse transgressions in this world that God forgives us for. Don't let a website discourage what you are trying to obtain. That relationship with God.

I am glad that you are pro-life! So am I. I have been a Catholic almost 8 years now and I see many very devout Catholics and many people who are Catholic but really do not understand the faith. My Bishop is Paul Swain who is a convert from Wisconson, he is a devout bishop who striveds to educate the whole dioceses.

There is no perfect church as it is made up of humans! But Jesus established a church with a magisterium to help it keep on tract as a whole and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. But of course any organization made up of humans can struggle.

Keep the faith! And pray hard for your bishop!

I don't think we can ever even begin to understand and fathom the true nature of God. I for one don't need a definite answer on this topic, why you may ask? Well, God has given us just enough information that we need in order to understand or know about the creation in order for us to live good lifes and return to him. So basically, I trust that I've been given enough information and don't need to focus on limiting God.

I recommend reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church 282- to about 310. I read it recently and I don't think it gives a definite answer one way or another, probably because they don't want to limit The Creator. I think they understand that there is just too much we don't need to know. If I remember right they are pretty vague about it.

Now I should say that they do believe God creates from nothing, but it doesn't go into all details of how this happens, or by what means he has to employ to make things happen. It seems to me they are just defining the starting point. Some may scoff at me for my next two sentences, but again this comes from my observation of our current situation here on this planet. We have fundamental laws of physics that can't be broken. Why should we assume that God doesn't have something similar. Now as far as we are concerned he's all powerful, all knowing, omniscient because he may not be bound by our rules. Again, this boils back down to we just don't know and everything we can say about it is just a guess and is of no real import to our current situation. The point is that he has the power to make His Will happen, whether, for example, it meant that in order to give us certain natural resources he had to let the dinosaurs roam the planet for a time, rather than employing the I-Dream-of-Genie-eye twitch and poof it magically happens.

I didn't mean that to believe in Creation I believe it happened in 6 24 hour days, but I do believe in 6 days to God (a day is like a 1000 years)

    2 Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

therefore the dinosaurs had time to roam so to speak and I also believe the I dream of genie mentality, only instead of the eye twitch, He spoke it into existence.

Genesis 1:3 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Just my two cents on the matter.

    Peace HouseofSaul

    I'm praying for you.
Sorry I haven't been on for a while. When I first read your post a few weeks ago, I was too distressed to respond and even felt a sting from your post. I just re read it again today and I now read with clarity and matter of factly.

Thanks for the prayers and for being direct. I myself prefer the direct approach, even if it sometimes stings. By being direct there is less room for being misunderstood.

RCIA is starting in most churches. Anyone with questions about the Catholic faith should contact their local church. Just because you attend classes does not mean you have to join. Follow Jesus with you own heart and see what he has for you!

So you can have an opportunity to see and feel as he did.

    Just a thought.
Well, since we are such newbies, even though we had asked around, St. Patrick's has a kiddo room with several helpers. So now we can go together next Sunday.

We didn't end up going last Sunday due to family in town.

Started RCIA last week too. So far its been very enjoyable and informative

1st Congrats to all that were confirmed on Easter Vigil.

Just an FYI update: I did not join the Church this year. I started a new job and could not be guaranteed to have the 2 mandatory days off for the Rite of Acceptance and another mandatory something...

I have never felt like I was a part of the parish or felt excited to go to the RCIA classes, even tho I have continued to attend when I can.

There is a different parish which is also part of a different diocese which is a short drive from me which I plan to visit.

Hi all, had Rite of welcoming last Sunday and this Saturday morning is the Rite of election with Bishop Philip at Portsmouth Cathederal. It is getting closer and closer to that special day now.

RCIA is usually once a week, unless the priest chooses to have it twice. My priest encouraged me to read the Catechism and bring questions each week. Also it is good to do studying on your own. This website has many resources to help you learn the faith.

How many times a week does everyone go to RCIA class? The last RCIA class I was in was only once a week for an hour and I never felt like it was enough. And what do you do in the class. Last time I was going home with cross word puzzle type stuff. This time around I want to find a church not connect to an elementary school because I think it influenced the quality of the class.

    dsully,
It is so true the mass does not have the high tech features of the evangelical churches. But of course we go to mass to recieve the real body and blood of our Lord Jesus. That is something no other church can offer. I too read The Lambs supper by Scott Hahn during my conversion, and really helped me. I also loved Hail Holy Queen (on Mary) and Lord Have Mercy (on confession). You can never go wrong with a Scott Hahn book.

I went to my first mass today, after finishing The Lamb's Supper by Scott Hahn a couple of days ago.

While reading the book, I was definitely blown away by all that the Mass is. My attendance today was both a reality check (in a good way) and a confirmation of everything I learned in Hahn's book.

It was a reality check in the sense that things played out a little more humbly than I would have expected having read Hahn's book. But that is part of the mystery, I suppose. I will admit I was a little confused not knowing what to say or do...but that is probably to be expected.

What really surprised me, however, was the tremendous sense of peace I experienced after the liturgy and during the time of the Eucharist. Without even taking the Eucharist, I still felt a tremendous sense of peace. It was as if I could have stayed on my knees all day. (I almost wished there wasn't an announcement time at the end of the Mass. While I know that information needs to be heard...I just wanted to focus more on the Lord!).

All in all, I was very glad that I went. What the mass might lack in terms of high-tech stuff (when compared to a contemporary evangelical service) it made up for in the peace of heart that I received.
