The Church Suffering (Purgatory)

Group created by Poor Soul

The purpose of this group is to offer daily thoughts and prayers for our beloved dead but also to provide information on what Purgatory is according to the Roman Rite.

IN MEMORY OF OUR DEPARTED LOVED ONES

"When we love, we remember, and this memory, the effect of love, is not a barren thought. It resolves itself into Deeds for the loved one. When sorrow is united with faith our sad memories resolve themselves into sentiments sweet and precious to the soul. To recall the features, the accents, the manners and the sentiments of a loved one is still to see him/her and to associate him/her with the joys and sorrows, which we formerly shared."--The Universal Living Rosary Association

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory , (and especially for the souls of.........) for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory especially all deceased members of catholic answers forums, and also for all deceased family, friends relatives, benefactors, aquaintances, ancestors and enemies of every catholic answers forums member, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen

PSALM 129: DE PROFUNDIS (English)

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord: * Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thy ears be attentive * to the voice of my supplication.
If Thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: * Lord, who shall stand it?
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness: * and by reason of thy law, I have waited for Thee, O Lord.
My soul hath relied on His word, * my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning watch even until night, * let Israel hope in the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with him plentiful redemption.
And he shall redeem Israel * from all his iniquities.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

PSALMUS 129: DE PROFUNDIS (Latin)

De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine:
Domine, exaudi vocem meam:
Fiant aures tuae intendentes,
in vocem deprecationis meae.
Si iniquitates observaveris, Domine:
Domine, quis sustinebit?
Quia apud te propitiatio est:
et propter legem tuam sustinui te, Domine.
Sustinuit anima mea in verbo eius:
speravit anima mea in Domino.
A custodia matutina usque ad noctem:
speret Israel in Domino.
Quia apud Dominum misericordia:
et copiosa apud eum redemptio.
Et ipse redimet Israel,
ex omnibus iniquitatibus eius.
Gloria Patri, et Filio,
et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,
et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

O most gentle Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on the souls of Thy departed servants. Be not severe in Thy judgments, but let some drops of Thy Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames. And do Thou, O merciful Saviour, send Thy holy angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.

RJB - That is so wonderful! I am sure that the Suffering and Holy Souls in Purgatory are very thankful! They will also intercede on our behalf!

For anyone who does not know about our wonderful Daily Devotional thoughts and prayers for the Poor Souls, here is a sample. I chose Day 23. (It is a 30 day devotion!)

    TWENTY-THIRD DAY

When, by our prayers, we release a soul from Purgatory, we have not only won his/her gratitude but also the gratitude of his/her Guardian Angel, of the Blessed Virgin Mary to whom his/her soul was consecrated, and of God Himself. Through our prayers we have allowed God to release that soul from the fires of Purgatory and all the sooner shower His blessings upon it.

Our Father, Three Hail Marys, Glory Be,
    and De Profundis

Most beloved Jesus, if I could but say, "There is a soul in Heaven at this time that owes to me its release from Purgation, a soul that speaks to God of me, that glorifies God for me, that loves Thy Blessed Mother for me. If it were thus, how happy I should be." Release form the pains of Purgatory the soul careless and hurried in prayer. Take him/her to the joys of Heaven that he/she may evermore praise Thee and intercede for me in my hour of need. Amen.
