Tridentine and Novus Ordo, We're still Catholic

Group created by catguy

Whether you practice the Latin Rite (the Tridentine Mass), or the Vernacular Rite (the Novus Ordo Missae), You are still a part of the ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC, APOSTOLIC, Church. You are free to practice the Most Holy sacrifice of the Mass in whatever language you please, as long as it is aproved by the Mother Church and Her Magesterium, and someone practicing the Holy Mass in one (permitted) language or Rite is NO MORE OR LESS heretical than anyone else. This group was founded as a sanctum for peace and inclusion for ALL CATHOLICS, no matter whether you practice the Tridentine Rite or the Novus Ordo Missae Rite of the Most Holy Mass. It is still the greatest sacrifice, the greatest prayer, and the greatest masterpiece on this earth besides the Holy Eucharist itself.

P.S. Hating is not aloud. If you're a hater, go away...

I am not a sedcanvist, I am a Traditionalist Catholic. The Latin mass seems more religious but the Novus Ordo Mass seems more Protestant and Secular.

In regards to not touching the Body of Christ, this is a heretical view as the Church allows for ordinary people to receive in the hand. Remember the creator of this group doesn't want haters. Christ came for sinners and he is a merciful loving God not to an extreme where he would not let us touch him. I personally went through this whole thing about not touching the Eucharist, and I still receive on the tongue, but I don't think I'm really hung up on holding the Eucharist anymore. Vatican II allowed for people to be more relaxed in their approach to Communion and to show that Christ came for sinners not for those who are perfect. Be careful you don't turn into a sedcanvist .. Or whatever you call it.

I think Eucharistic Minsters should be abolished and touching the body of Christ is absolute desecration because we humans are not worthy enough to touch the body of Christ unless your a priest or any other kind of Religious ranking. We humans are born with original sin and the original sin still stays with us even though we are baptised. I think the right way is kneeling and opening your mouth and sticking your tongue out.

Hello all. I was brought up going to the Novus Ordo and the Latin Mass. I married into a family that is strictly Latin Mass. Personally, I believe that her family does not believe the new Mass is even valid. My wife told me the other day that if she and her family ever had to go to the new mass, they (all 11 kids and two adults) would make a spiritual communion (ie, not go to communion) at the Novus Ordo. Isn't this wrong? This is pretty recent. Any dinner table talk of the Novus Ordo or anything that has to do with it is always very negative. I was told by her father before I married his daughter to "make the latin mass a priority." Now he tells other guys trying to get to know his daughters that "my daughters only go to the latin mass." Last week, my wife and I went to the Novus Ordo mass and took Communion from a female Eucharistic minister, and not the priest. This was her first time doing this. She later told me that she wished she had made a spiritual communion because of this. I told her it was Jesus, regardless of how she took the Host, and that it was her problem for thinking this way. How do I combat this apparent stubbornness? At the moment, I live close to her family, and have to put up with her family. I usually sit quiet and listen, like a coward. I want to be able to make my own arguments instead of listening constantly to her parents wierd ideas and comments. Quite honestly, I do not know exactly what to do, except swallow it and always go to the Latin Mass, and always be pissed off during Mass. I honestly think the health of my marriage means that I always go the the Latin Mass and bring my kids up in this Mass. I feel almost like an outsider constantly being around her family and at the Latin Mass. However, when I go to the Novus Ordo, I get this feeling that I should be going to the Latin Mass due to the occasional modernness of the Novus Ordo, which seems to be a function of the priest saying Mass. Honestly, it get to the point where I dont even feel like going to Church anymore. I do not like the Latin when I am at the Latin, and I do not like Novus Ordo when I am at the Novus Ordo. I just need some help. I know ultimately that I am going to have to take my family by the reigns and move far away and do my own things, but my job situation prevents me from doing this right now. In the mean time, I want to be able to grow in my faith and be able to educate my wifes family. Maybe I will end up actually enjoying Mass one day. This is just a real life example of this struggle.

Greetings! Well, I find that attending both novus ordo and tridentine enables me to appreciate both forms better. I think the two masses emphasise different things. I like the silent periods in the tridentine which you don't really get in the other. I like the chant at the tridentine when we have a missa cantata. The only obvious intrinsic divisiveness I can find is that the two forms follow different calendars. For me it is often the 'music' in the modern mass that puts me off, not the form of the mass itself. It may be another thread, but I don't think I'm going to like the 'new trnaslation' We're trying bits out at the moment, thus 'The Gospel of the Lord' omitting 'This is..' as it is supposed to be "closer to the Latin" - but it isn't!

foolishmortal, the Priest may well be a product of the mistaken Catechesis even in Seminaries following Vatican II. It may be appropriate to bring these concerns up with your Parish Council and/or Bishop. He seems to be outside the Cannon Law requiring no digression nor disrespect for The Holy Mass of Our Lord. It is The Lord's Mass, not the Priest, who is Our Lord's instrument on Earth. The USCCB has Liturgical Norms (rules) for The Mass and Liturgies; your Bishop and all Priests must observe.
    • There are beautiful Cultural variations approved by The Bishop: African American Cultural Mass, Fully correct Mass, but beautiful Prayer Requests and individual thank you's and visitor introductions before Mass begins! I love it, With Mass followeing, all Holy Spirit strengthened for Mass. They have an awesome Choir also, Cultural. Our Bishop has succeeded in getting a significant tone-down on the cultural extras because they diminished The Holy Mass. 10 minutes after Mass may have been appropriate, after the Solemnity Of the Mass, Eucharist, but everybody was busy going home.
The Mass of Our Lord is The Focus, the Everything; although the beautiful Cultural is to me a very Beautiful Cultural Stregthening.

I attended an AMAZING Novus Ordo Latin Mass in Cincinnati once, i loved it because it did have all the dignity latin lends, but i could totally follow along without the translation because i'm so familiar with the N.O. in english. It was beautifully done, with chant and all

I'm traditional (Thanks to my parish priest), but I don't prefer the Tridentine rite over the N.O. Although in my opinion, they took too much out of the mass and allowed weird stuff (eg. girl altar servers!?!), I'm not too fond things such as only Latin (Although I love Latin). I would prefer a N.O with more traditional stuff in it.
