Hello. My name is Mark. I became Catholic for two reasons primarily.

First, my wife is Catholic and I just wanted to present a united front against Satan with her.

Second, I had a health scare, a brain tumor, and two major surgeries in 1990. I thought I had better get right with God in case he wanted to call me home.

    Why convert?

Because I went all over the map, looking for a rational, reasonable religion. I could write a book about the path I took, and what occurred on the journey, but I finally ended up in RCIA after trying a lot of other religions and "religions". I can now make a reasoned argument, not just a faith based one, for why one should be Catholic.

So I went part way through, then got kicked out. I attend Mass regularly, but will probably never be confirmed Catholic nor take the Eucharist because the Church won't let me.

Such is life. You finally find what you were looking for, then you end up not being allowed to have it.

But, where else can I go? No one else has all of the words of truth.

2010NewCatholic - Welcome home! I think a lot of the protestant denominations are doing exactly as you described. I just had a friend from work leave the ELCA Luthern for the same reason, but a bunch in her church started an independant Luthern church. I tried to wittness to her and tell her in the Catholic church we will never have to worry about our morals changing. I also lost friends and did try to wittness, I also wet through much persecution from friends and family.

Reaganorama - Welcome home! You made the right move. Being Catholic and a broadcaster would be hard. The Lord has plans for you, who knows, maybe EWTN is waiting for you or some other Catholic Radio Station! When we follow the Lord, there is suffering. Most protestants and especially evangelicals think that if you suffer you have little faith, but it is the opposite. The closer we get to our Lord, the more suffering there is. We as Catholics can offer up that suffering for the Holy Souls in Purgetory or for someone else we know needs our suffering.

Christmas will be 7 years for me and I am still learning everyday. God Bless each of you.

About three years ago I was given the weekends off. In broadcasting, this is the gold standard for a schedule. I said to myself, I've got to thank God somehow. I had been raised Baptist and baptized Methodist, and I knew I didn't want to get into any sort of organized schism.

So I thought to myself that I had to go with the religion that was the oldest one, the one with fewest interruptions -- I became a Roman Catholic.

RCIA was amazing. My life changed so much. I was an emotional mess leading up to Easter, because I really identified with Christ - and what we all know he went through. My life was so emotionally ravaged, it was perfect timing to be brought in.

Shortly afterward, I lost my job, then lost my house and left my friends behind when I moved to Florida, but I know I'm being led. "Thy Will be Done."

I'm not afraid. I'm placid. No matter what comes, suffering and joy intertwined. Black, white. Ying Yang, Yeah, Nay ...

    Thank you, Jesus.

To your life long friends , you should share you faith with them and show them the truth .
The bible does say " Go and make disciples " Correct?
I think you should lead them to the true church !

I grew up in a historical Congregational Church, which joined with the United Church of Christ in 1957. In 2005 the UCC announced that they were pro-same sex marriage and anti-Israel. I started asking questions. The pastor told me "we don't believe in the Old Testament anymore" after I asked how they could be anti-Israel, when it is clear in the OT that they were God's chosen people? I started to research the UCC and it was EVIL that I found. Teaching children, K-12 Sex ed, which discourages abstinence (too frustrating!) and encourages experimentation; they are pro-abortion, support Palestinian, and other terrorists such as the FALN, etc. We left in 2006. It was the worst thing I've ever gone through. Life long friends didn't speak to me anymore; I'm just glad my parents weren't alive to see it. Anyway ... in 2007 my daughter and I went to Italy before she began her studies there, and we felt "something"; then my son got married to a Catholic girl in 2009. When I stepped in that church I felt at home... and went through RCIA, along with my daughter, and we became Catholic on Easter Eve 2010. It was the best thing I ever did. My daughter is studying Italian Renaissance, and hopes to teach at a Catholic University with a seminary some day.
