The book of acts chapter 1- basically covers the promise of the holy spirit, as we see in acts 1: 3-5 "After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.” and the apostles had a true faith and it says in acts 1:14 all these devoted themselves to one accord to prayer, together with some women and the mother Mary of Jesus and his brothers" the truly devoted themselves and formed the first community .. Now the 2nd chapter - *this chapter shows they were patient and what was promised to them they received acts 2:1-4 *"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them." if you are patient and have true faith as they did there promise was given and then it goes on to explain how the Jews were aerobes . Acts 2:12-13 "Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
And peter goes on to preach to them and explain that god raised Jesus up and that he is the true lord and messiah verse 36*"Therefore let the whole House of Israel know beyond all doubt that God has made Him both LORD and CHRIST--this Jesus whom you crucified." and after he says this there so amazed and they were all baptized in the name of Jesus for forgiveness of our sins verse 41 "*41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day." and they all devoted there lives to Christ and living in prayer, so the first 2 chapters of the acts really explains how our church began and the background on baptizing and the coming of the holy spirit, I've learned a lot from these 2 chapters alone, when everyone finishes the first 2 chapters please tell me what you thought about it and your explanation and when everyone is finished we will move on!*

Dear friends, I am sorry to say that I can't stay in this wonderful group, but reading the Bible is very hard for me with my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder so I can't do it right now. I pray that this group flourishes and that you all learn a lot from each other! God bless you!

I'm fine with starting with the book of acts. I too have not read the bible much in a very long time. This will really be good for me. It should give me some discipline. And nice to meet you as well. Have a blessed and peaceful night all! Brenda
