Hi, I'm Shawna a thirty-eight year old mother of a twenty year old son. I remarried four years ago and my husband and I are trying to add to the family a lot of my friends don't understand my desire to 'Start all over again" as they say, but I am so eager. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get people to stop trying to talk me out of what I am pursuing, a family.

I have this book called The Catholic Home by Meridith Gould. I use it during holiday times to kind of help me fill our house with Catholic traditions. That way I figure I can pass these on because I am so afraid they will get lost. I didn't know most of these myself. So I have a feeling most are getting lost anyhow. She has a lot of good ideas to help keep your home Catholic. I always look forward to Advent bringing out the Advent candles and wreath. I would be interested if any one knows of any other good books that teach some Catholic traditions for the home.

    Hi Petit,

I really hear what you're saying about the kids! Sometimes the kids will help out of their own accord, but if I try to make them do anything it tends to be a great deal more effort than might be saved. I still want to do this, since it's so important for their development to help around the house and to learn to mind their Mom. But I figure I need to get my own habits good before I start trying to pass good habits on to the kids. Since I'm ready to have a baby, I need to save chore delegation for a while.

    Ruth:

I see a routine as a schedule kept in ones head. That's the way everything used to get done, before people wrote things down on charts or typed them into PDA's, etc. The great thing about routinizing things is that less thought is required for the housekeeping task, so the mind is freed for better and more interesting thoughts. Familiar work feels much more appealing and less difficult to me. I generally enjoy my most regular tasks.

    God Bless,
    Joan

Hi all I am new, and organizationally challenged! lots of good positive tips here. Lukesgal I never heard about the weekly Helpers tip before it's a good one.
In my house whenever I have the kids help they start bickering and I have to literally stand over them and supervise. They are so concerned with what the others are doing. It's a nightmare!
