Prayer Warriors Needed To Pray For Addicts

Wishing all here every blessing from the most Sacred Heart of Jesus (ran out of time on friday to post).
This group is very close to my heart and much in my thoughts and prayers, even if I don't always make an appearance.

Lord
Help me to remember that nothing is impossible to prayer. Because when I pray, I bring You close and when You are close, I am not alone or afraid. I call on You, and the world eases around me. There is comfort for my hurt...and peace from my worries. As one door closes, I see another open wide before me. So, let my whispered voice start each day with the promise of prayer, certain that with Your name on my lips...and Your love in my heart...all things are ever possible. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE ADDICTED

God of mercy, we bless You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who ministered to all who come to Him. Give Your strength to ( Name ), Your servant, bound by the chains of addiction. Enfold him / her in Your love and restore him /her to the freedom of God's children. Lord, look with compassion on all those who have lost their health and freedom. Restore to them the assurance of Your unfailing mercy, and strengthen them in the work of recovery. To those who care for them, grant patient understanding and a love that perseveres. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Venerable Matt Talbot Feast Day — June 19

Matt was born in 1856 and was raised in a poor family in Dublin, Ireland. He began working for a liquor company when he was twelve years old. He also began drinking alcohol around the same time.

Once he began drinking, Matt could not stop. Alcohol became the most important thing in his life. He spent all his wages on liquor and when he did not have money from his regular job, he often stood outside a pub waiting for a friend to invite him in and buy him a drink. Soon he had no friends left. He once stole a fiddle from a blind man. Matt pawned the fiddle and used the money to buy alcohol.

When he almost thirty years old, Matt decided to stop drinking. He went to a priest and “took the pledge,” a common custom in Matt’s time. Alcoholics often made a promise to God in the presence of a priest as a sign that they were going to give up drinking. Matt’s first pledge was for three months.

Matt turned to God for help. He began to go to daily Mass. He often spent his free time—the time he used to spend in the pub—praying. He became especially close to Mary. He knew that our Blessed Mother wanted to help him live a happy life.

Matt stopped carrying the money he earned from his job in a lumberyard. He wanted to avoid the temptation to spend it on liquor. Instead, he gave his wages away to friends who needed money for rent or to buy food or shoes for their children. He was also generous in donating money to his church.

Matt stayed sober for the rest of his life—almost forty years. He was on his way to Mass when he died on a neighborhood street of a heart attack.

Matt Talbot has been declared “Venerable” by the Catholic Church. This is the first step on the journey to sainthood. Matt was healed from his addiction by God’s love and his faith. Like Matt, we can bring our troubles to God and Mary in prayer. We can remember that God hears and answers all of our prayers.

I'm sorry I was not able to post the novena prayer for Day 1 and Day 2 as I had wished. But I have been praying and I ask that you pray with us also.

"Lord, in your servant, Matt Talbot you have given us a wonderful example of triumph over addiction, of devotion to duty, and of lifelong reverence of the Holy Sacrament. May his life of prayer and penance give us courage to take up our crosses and follow in the footsteps of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Father, if it be your will that your beloved servant should be glorified by your Church, make known by your heavenly favours the power he enjoys in your sight. We ask this through the same Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen."

Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe, your life of love and labor for souls was sacrificed amid the horrors of a concentration camp and hastened to its end by an injection of a deadly drug.
Look with compassion upon ___________________ who is now entrapped in addiction to drugs and whom we now recommend to your powerful intercession.
Having offered your own life to preserve that of a family man, we turn to you with trust, confident that you will understand and help.
Obtain for us the grace never to withhold our love and understanding, nor to fail in persevering prayer that the enslaving bonds of addiction may be broken and that full health and freedom may be restored to him / her whom we love.
We will never cease to be grateful to God who has helped us and heard your prayer for us. Amen.

Yes, lets continue to keep all persons with addictions in our prayers. The road is long and narrow. Only when illuminated by the Grace of Our Lords love and mercy, and the persons willingness to accept it will the victory be theirs....Hello to all....denny in MI
