Prayer Warriors Needed To Pray For Addicts

Visit the forum of this group.
Group created by YearningforGod

Many of us are somehow touched directly or inderectly by a life, a helpless soul who suffers from an addiction. It is very disheartening to feel impotent. Addictions come in many sorts of disguises and they hurt everyone involved. This group is here to ask for prayers and offer prayers for those bound by the chains of addiction. Let us pray together for them, for their families, their loved ones, and all else affected by this bondage.

GROUP UPDATES:

We invite you all to pray with us a novena to Saint Dymphna. Novena runs from Nov. 16 Wednesday - Nov. 24 Thursday.
Also, feel free to ask family members and friends to join us too.

Here's the novena prayer to Saint Dymphna.

St. Dymphna
Prayer...Lord God, Who has graciously chosen Saint Dymphna to be the patroness of those afflicted with mental and nervous disorders, and has caused her to be an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who invoke her intercession, grant through the prayers of this pure, youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all who suffer from these disturbances, and especially to those for whom we now pray.
(Here mention those for whom you wish to pray.)

We beg You to accept and grant the prayers of Saint Dymphna on our behalf. Grant to those we have particularly recommended patience in their sufferings and resignation to Your Divine Will. Fill them with hope and, if it is according to Your Divine Plan, bestow upon them the cure they so earnestly desire. Grant this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

James, what a blessing for you and those you love to be sober almost ten years!! That is wonderful to know because it fills the rest of us with hope knowing that all things are possible with God!!! TEN YEARS!!! YAY!!! One day at a time...one day at a time in God's hands will pull anyone through as the days, the weeks, the months, and the years pass us on by.

    God bless you!

Brenda, thank you so much for sharing that profound poem. I know it is hard to understand when we are not addicts, but I often try to understand as much as I can so that I can help. And as I read your poem, I could imagine my dad as well. He started drinking when he was ten years old, so sad. In the country where I was born, drinking is sometimes considered very "manly" and young boys are applauded for that "manhood" ...so sad... Now my dad is 57 and is still so lost in that "sea of dreams". But I pray that prayer will help him through so that he can "untangle" himself and be saved. He is so young...I want him to live a long and healthy life.

Thank you again for sharing your poem! I will keep it handy for those times that I become frustrated. I know this is so bad but every so often I get frustrated with my dad and ask him what is lacking? He has a caring family, he is economically stable.... and when I say that God is who lacking in his life, he goes off the deep end and says that God has forgotten about him and all church-goers are hyprocites. But then I stop myself because I realize that I do not know what he is going through and I cannot judge, but I can pray and be there for him unconditionally.

    God bless you!

DENNYINMI, thank you for sharing your experiences with us; I feel enlightened with your words! You are very right about the "uprooting", above all those suffering from addictions must seek and allow God's love to help them through. You're also right about how deep roots can run, I think sometimes they run generations and generations deep.

I did not know about the medical-based models out there. But it is very encouraging and very beautiful to know that there is a higher recovery rate with AA and that it is mainly due to their Higher Power--GOD. With God all things are possible!!!

I too continue praying for my dad. Using the mental images that came to my mind after reading Flower Lady's poem, I imagine him in this ocean of deceit that he knows not how to escape from. We thought that he would have a turnaround or at least begin to admit he has a problem when his brother, my uncle, drowned in his sleep because of alcohol, but it hasn't. May God forgive my uncle and have him in his glory, he too suffered all his life because of alcholism and gambling. I pray that God's Holy Spirit moves within my dad's soul so that he can begin a road of recovery.

Thank you again, for sharing your stories with us.

God bless you and your daughter.

Oh James, I am so happy that God has blessed you with ten wonderful years of sobriety. He is truly merciful. God bless you and keep you sober hopefully for the rest of your life. However One Day at a Time!! We must not forget that.

God of mercy, we bless You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who ministered to all who come to Him. Give Your strength to (Name) Your servant, bound by the chains of addiction. Enfold him/her in Your love and restore him/her to the freedom of God's children. Lord, look with compassion on all those who have lost their health and freedom. Restore to them the assurance of Your unfailing mecy, and strengthen them in the work of recovery. To those who care for them, grant patient understanding and a love that perseveres. We ask his through Christ our Lord. Amen. God all. Brenda

    flower lady,
Your poem hit the nail on the head. Exactly right. When people ask me about my addiction, I tell them there is a line between reality and fantasy, I had both feet over the line.

God of mercy, we bless You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who ministered to all who come to Him. Give Your strength to (Name) Your servant. bound by the chains of addiction. Enfold him/her in Your love and restore him/her to the freedom of God's children. Lord, look with compassion on all those who have lost their health and freedom. Restore to them the assurance of Your unfailing mercy, and strengthen them in the work of recovery. To those who care for them, grant patient understanding and a love that perseveres. I just realized that come April 4, I'll have 10 years being clean and sober. What a road it's been.....

"Loving God, thank you for healing (person's name) and for (time sober) without alcohol. Please bless and keepp him/her, that he/her may resist the next drink and keep resisting it. Remind (person's name) that he/she is your beloved child, with whom you are well pleased. Amen."

Addition is an attractor field- a low vibrational level. I wound up there because I was trying to escape pain, or I was trying to experience somthing transcendent, and I got stuck.

This was part of a prayer I found on the internet.

Here is a poem I wrote, I think last yr. or the yr. before.

    The drug addict

I dove into a sea of dreams
where none of them had come to be
I swam out of reality, got tangled up in a fantasy
    and drowned.
    .
    Brenda Massey copyright 2011

The poem expresses how I truly felt when I was drinking.

I am praying for you all.
