    Hi,
I'm Mariana. I'm a college student from Massachusetts, and trying to rediscover my faith after a period of lukewarmness. I'm excited, and fortunate to join this group.
I'm so sad there is not catholic center on my campus, but I've been studying with a group of Christians on campus. The first day one girl asked me to study one on one with her did not think much of it. Turns out a youth leader, was also coming to the study, and she leads the study . I dug deeper into them, and no longer wish to study with them . I found a website that outlines there whole "one on one study " which should include 2 people, and at the end they expect you to convert. The link outline it exactly. This is all under the guise of studying Bible. They make you seem like they are your friends I don't really ever want to study with them again. They are told to act like your best friends. It all seems very manipulatory.
I guess I'll finish the semester, but hopefully I don't have to study with them any further. I kind of felt something was off. The minute the first group study I went to was over, because the one girl aggressively was trying to get me to study bible one on one with her. I thought she was a little pushy, but though nothing more. We decided on Fridays to meet. I have noticed that they follow the script of the link exactly, and I feel more comfortable in the group study which is not pushy, but I know it is not possible. Any good campus ministries near Boston or good Catholic Bible study? They made me do a sin study one Friday, and they made me tell them sins I had done. I felt bad lying to them, but I didn't want to tell them my sins. This was when I got weirded out and looked them up, and found the study. A person trying to educate others posted. "If successful, this study will produce a student who attains a group-determined standard of "godly sorrow" about their life. The system of confession introduced in this study will become an effective tool in maintaining control over members."

I grew up in East L.A. The names of the Catholic churches in close proximity to each other in that area have to do with Mary. They include Our Lady of : Talpa, Lourdes, Victory, Guadalupe, Soledad and Assumption and St. Mary. I think it has to do with the area's long time predominantly Mexican Catholic population and their devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
