Value Restoration Catholics

Group created by Skybench

This group aims to encourage people to come back to the authentic Catholic values as it relates to Family life, Vocation, Business, Work etc. We share experinces from our various places and countries and encourage one another and others to hold tight or embrace these values in the face of increasing erosion of these core human values across the globe. We try to highlight those important values that the Church teaches and also how secular society has endangered or destroyed them.We also point out various traditional practices and customs that equally goes against these Values. God Bless.

Sufjon,Thanks for joining. You can read and react to any post on the forum or if you have any issue bordering on catholic morality and values you kindly post them on the group wall message.
However, if you know of other way of making the group more exciting and engaging you are welcome to come up with that aspect too.
    God Bless.

Hi: I have joined this group having been invited. I'm not sure I have anything to offer that would add much value to the dialog, but I'm here nonetheless. I'm not even sure how this forum works, for instance, how does one see the continuity on the string. like who is answering who?

    Your friend,

I am very fortunate having been confirmed last year meeting mostly Catholics who do live Catholic practicing lives, though I have heard of stories through people about Catholics who only go to Church at Christmas and Easter and who don't live Christ like lives. This is sad!!

Hi, thanks for inviting me, Skybench. I am a (roughly) 20 year convert to the Catholic faith and had over the years become lukewarm and let my Protestant background influence my decisions instead of submitting to the authority of the Church. However, about 7 months ago I had a "reawakening" and am now embracing and devouring everything I can about the Catholic faith. Everything the church teaches suddenly makes sense (if that makes sense!) I hope to learn from all of you and hope I can contribute something worthwhile as well.

    Hi Skybench,
"Benward,Yes,every generation has got it's own challanges. But I think there is no time in history that the core values of catholicism has so been eroded than now.Think of the drug related murders and killing in North America,Tribal Killings in Africa,Incests, Corruption, Abortion,Euthnesia,Gay rights and legislations in many European countries etc.Are these the value which Christ taught and which the Church tries to Uphold?"

No that's exactly my point - the issue is twofold :
    1. All the atrocities you mention are an abomination, and sinful - but if you read about England under the Tudor dynasty you will find the similar events to the ones you describe. History shows that Genghis Khan slaughtered more than 40million people across Europe and Asia in every form of atrocity known to man - the Romans were similar, and had a problem with abortion just as now - read the apology of Aristedes of 125a.d.
1500 years before that Moses had to introduce divorce to cope with the breakdown of family values, and the ten commandments were given because of the breakdown of the values instilled by Abraham- all this is about history repeating itself when the human condition overpowers the spiritual condition.
    2. Rather than debating whether this generation or that was worst, what's important in any generation is - are there men and women out there who will stand up to be counted in the name of the Creator ? - and that includes Bobber90 - only then will the values that Christ taught enable the spiritual strength of His followers to overpower the human condition into which we were all born.
(Sorry Bobber90, your relative values are admirable but not those of the Christian message, and don't get a mention from the Creator, other than how the power of the law can encourage sinful behaviour (Paul to the 1Corinthians) - so come the Day of Judgement , they may be found wanting).

    God bless

Skybench, firstly I think respect for others' views is central to the rationale of secular government, so I hope we would find some agreement there. The kind of secular government I would like is one where no religious group is given special public or political advantage, but where beliefs are understood to be important to those who have them, and of course allowed to flourish. Where government policy is concerned, I would expect evidence to be consulted, and think that basing policy on anyone's unexamined beliefs - atheist or otherwise - is inadequate. Because of this, I see it as outside the government's role to prevent gay marriage, because I think the argument against gay marriage is theistic, and that there is not strong enough evidence to base legislation on Christian belief.

Henrikhank, It no use being judgemental. The effort we put in trying to live the gospel and follow the churche's teaching is very important. Human judgement can be misleading at times and that is why we should focus on God and the church and hope that we make haven.God's way is not the way of man and the church ofcourse is not made up of people who are all 'Saints' but those who want to be better by striving to do the will of God despite their human failings.
    God Bless
