MOVIES YOU'D RECOMMEND (AND/ OR) QUESTION!

Group created by sheilakathy

Seen any good movies lately? Share the good news!

Have a question about one you've seen (even long ago?) Ask! Maybe someone knows the answer.

Seen a real dud lately? Please warn us so we don't go see it (or worse yet) buy it and get burned also!

Also, please let us know if you saw it in the
theatre(s) or if it is available on DVD.

Thanks!

Sheila,
Group Leader

    Psalm 42:3-8

    New Living Translation (NLT)

3 Day and night I have only tears for food,
while my enemies continually taunt me, saying,
“Where is this God of yours?”
    4 My heart is breaking
as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers,
leading a great procession to the house of God,
singing for joy and giving thanks
amid the sound of a great celebration!
    5 Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
my Savior and 6 my God! Now I am deeply discouraged,
    but I will remember you—
even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan,
from the land of Mount Mizar.
7 I hear the tumult of the raging seas
as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
8 But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.

Every movie from the Sundance Channel is either underacted, filthy, or just plain boring. I don't know what Redford thinks he's teaching out there, but it appears that he has pushed the envelope so hard that the envelope no longe exists. I'm waiting for a remake of "Gone With The Wind" with the original script. Personally, I see Kelli Pickler as Scarlett O'Hara. But, that's just me. I have an autographed book. I have read it at least 20 times over my lifetime. However, in this Lenten time, I have restrained from watching movies made after 1965. That is God's gift to me, to see movies with meaning rather than too much skin and before the dreaded term "Diversity".

Heres a lenten opportunity! I've asked our parochial vicar for permission to bring the movie The War on the Vendee to our parish and nieghboring parishes (the exhibition license is good for 30 days) I'll be screening it for my pastor and the parochial vicar (if all goes well) next week for their approval. All the actors are under 21 years old so expect to see the French Revolution like you've never seen it before---with acne, braces, etc...
The licence is modest and comes with enough copies to sell to reimburse the expense. Heres the link if it sounds like something you'd want to try

Movies with music. Brigadoon comes to mind. Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Far and Away, Braveheart, Doctor Zhivago (probably spelled wrong) an old movie called "The Naked Maja" a story of the Duchess of Alba and the painter Goya. All have outstanding musical scores. It was made before most of you were born. I saw it as a teenager. You must remember I am from 2 generations back when movies were only seen in theaters. However, I do have all of these musical scores on my IPOD.
