Hi all, I just posted a message dont think I posted it though. I am hoping to join the Discalced Carmelites in Tasmania, Australia. They are apparently quite Orthodox there , 11 nuns live there. I have been told by the Prioress I have to wait to apply when I have been Confirmed Catholic 5 years, its been nearly a year at Easter , so 4 years to go and in the meantime I have a trained SD who is great !! I need to work on my health and pay off my $8000 study debt,

Trust the VD. If it is God's will it will be made possible.

Congratulations on your discerning. I began discerning active religious life at age 14, but I stopped and dismissed it as a phase. Here I am again at age 18 looking into contemplative life. Nothing serious is happening as of yet. I plan to get my undergraduate, but these thoughts I feel will still be in my head. I keep on tripping over this one monastery, but that's it.

As for the VD...well, I guess the only thing to do is to take her advice. However, she could be mistaken. Did she given reasons? I agree with the171; spiritual directors are a necessity. I even had one when I was 14. Keep praying and be open to all forms of God's vocation for humanity.

Listen to the VD. But get a spiritual director! I cannot recommend this enough. And if you want to know about a community, contact them! I am discerning with Lafayette Carmel. I will be applying in one to two years. For now I am an aspirant.

I have been discerning for over a year now and have visited several communities. There is one in particular that I feel drawn too but the vocations director feels that I do not have a vocation there or possibly not at all. Every time I visit some where else I feel like that is where I belong.
Does anyone have recommendations for me?

Hi! Im new to this forum so I dont know if Im doing this right.
I did look at some of the information on the website. I have not visited them but from the pictures it seems like a very peaceful place that is conducive to prayer and recollection. Also the sisters seem very happy and overflowing with joy. Will this be your first visit? God bless you and hold you close to his heart as you seek his will

I'm thinking about looking into the Monastery of St. Therese--a Discalced Carmelite monastery. http://www.rc.net/detroit/carmelite/ . What do you guys think?
