Divinisation may be best described as the transformation of confused carnal humans into unwavering spiritual children of God.

The greatest aid that accomplishes divinisation, is suffering. While all sufferings serve a redemptive purpose in general, they can be categorised according to specific purpose served.

Thus, our Lord’s sufferings can be described as propitiation or expiation as they constitute the penal compensation for the sins of all humans. The immediate consequence of sin is retributive suffering that serves as deterrent. The severe prolonged tribulation that frees us from the habit of sin is purgative suffering.

Adversity caused by the Enemy to deter us from doing good, is turned by God into benevolent sanctifying suffering that grows and perfects virtue. That which is endured in the ultimate test – Baptism by Fire, is glorifying suffering.

Hello everyone - I'm sorry it's taken me so long to greet you - and: peace be with you.

My name is 'Virginia' and I joined CAF, successfully (failed attempt a few years ago!), just last week. I am housebound (riser-recliner-bound, actually!) with MS (multiple sclerosis). I am a Catholic convert (1993) and offer all my suffering up for the world.

Several years ago, I consecrated myself to the Cross and, although I don't think that was such a good idea (my suffering can effect my son badly, for instance), I am so grateful for the presence of the Lord in my life.

Dear Jesus who knows so much pain, yet, still takes my own to Himself - and eases it for me.

It is the middle of the night, as I write now, in London, UK...and I am wide awake. Does anyone else here have trouble sleeping?

"Oh, my God, through the loving arms of your Son, please comfort every member of the CAF 'Suffering' group. We offer our pain up to you. Amen."

    God bless you all,

    Virginia
