While I am delighted with the new English translation of the Editio Typicum I am still concerned that announcements interupt the time after Holy Communion. Liturgists work hard to provide music that corosponds to the mood of the Eucharistic Sacrifice. Just when people are in that prayerful mode it's like... "and now a word from our sponser..." Bingo at the parish hall... Cookbooks for sale after Mass... Youth group holy Hour followed by a baseball game... etc... "The Lord be with you." Doesn't work at all!!!

I have been a Liturgist, Organist and Choir director for more years than I care to admit. I have tried to hide over the past years but our parishes are in such dire need of trained liturgists and organist I am now again quite active. Two full sung Novus Ordo and a TLM High Mass each Sunday. I am delighted with the new translation of the Novus Ordo, (I guess I should be using the term "Ordinary Form" of the Roman Rite to be Politically correct,) but you all know what I mean...and I've never been really good at the "political corectness thing" anyway. While delighted with the new translation I still have a few real problems with the structure of the Novus Ordo. I would very much like to discuss these things with others invilved in Sacred Liturgy be they Professional Church Musicians or just the teenager who has had this responsibility foisted on them because no one else in their parish plays or is willing.
Background: Trained in Cantus Gregoriano in Lingua Latina at St. Meinrad Archabbey by Dom Stephen Thuis, O.S.B. also hymnody, Sacred Polyphony, Rubrics (of the Tridentine Rite mostly,) and composition.
This will turn some off... I am a Traditionalist ONLY in my love for the intrinsic beauty and inherent sacredness of the TLM... but the Mass is the Mass is the Mass! When a priest with proper intention, proper matter, etc goes to the Altar and offers the Sacrifice and confects the Eucharist we have a Mass. It makes no difference if it is in English, Latin, German or Tagalog... if it is celebrated on the tailgate of a military vehicle in Afganastan or in St. Peter's in Rome... the efficacy is the same. The self-same Sacrifice offered to the Eternal Father for the salvation of the world... done deal!
Some may be more uplifting to the human person, more astetically pleasing to us humans with our limited senses... our God suffers from none of these limitation... He just looks down and sees His Son... the re-presentation complete...satisfaction made.
So... if you have a thought or two or twenty... let's chat!

    In Him and His Mother!
    J
