Hispanic-Mozarabic Rite Fans

Group created by Giennensis

In the year 722 the Muslims took over most of the Iberian Peninsula, putting the Visigoth kingdom of Spania to an end. Many Christians stayed under Muslim rule keeping their religion and traditions, often risking their lives. They were called the Mozarabs.

Their beautiful ancient Rite survived the Muslims, the spread of the Roman Rite and the pass of many centuries making it one of the few surviving Western Latin rites still alive in the present days.

I'm starting this group in order to gather people interested in this ancient, beautiful and still living rite. If you love this rite, you are Spanish or Hispanic or you just feel you feel you have any kind of connection with Spain then you're welcome to join this group, talk about this beautiful rite and enjoy it.

I'm also open to discuss the possibility and/or convenience of spreading this rite (or at least making the attempt) by trying to create any sort of communities like the few ones that already exist in Spain.

If anyone is interested in a particular mp3 from the CD "Chant Mozarabe: Cathédrale de Tolède (XVe siècle)" by Ensemble Organum, just send me a note. (It is long been out of production.)

I would like to point out that Abed Al Rahman I who went to Spain in 722 had a Christian mother named Mariwa (Maria). He was a descendant of Caliph Omar who built the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. His entire family was massacred and he was the only survivor, which is why he had to flee to Spain. It is an amazing story.

I'm a South Louisiana Catholic, but my two children were born in Costa Rica where we lived for ten years. I love the era of the Al Andaluz, it was a beautiful time. I am curious to learn more about the Christians of that era. Thank you for the link to music and the illuminated manuscripts.

    Thanks to you for joining

This one is my favourite song:

St. Isidore of Seville has a lot of work these days, sadly. Spain truly needs spiritual help. But we know that it can renew itself if we pray and trust in God

    Thank you again for joining
