Devotion to St. Monica
St. Monica (331-387, feat day August 27th) Mother of St. Augustine, prayed for over twenty years for the conversion of her son Augustine and husband Patricus. Her son Augustine finally repented of his sinful ways and Monica died shortly after at the age of 56.
She is the patron saint of troubled parents, battered wives, despondent mothers, widows, and alcoholics. She herself was a reformed alcoholic.
