Catholics in the South

Group created by Parce Domine

Does your local phone book list seventy different churches under thirty separate denominations, twenty more missions and sub-denominations, plus a dozen other religious societies and congregations, but only one Catholic parish? Are you often asked, "If you died right now, do you KNOW you'd go to heaven?"

Do people talk about you in restaurants when you cross yourself for the blessing? Do they roll their eyes or snort when they see a crucifix around your neck?

Do people leave pamphlets on your porch because you have a statue of Mary in your yard, or put tracts on your windshield because you have a rosary hanging from your rear-view mirror?

Do your friends, neighbors, and in-laws pretty much agree that you need converting because you're Catholic, not what they consider "saved" and "born-again?"

Do people of more than three denominations, religions, or organizations come to your house to try to explain what it takes to be a REAL Christian? Have you ever been stared at during an "altar call?" At a wedding?

Or do you live in a part of the South where Catholics aren't the minority, like St. Francisville, Louisiana or Ave Maria, Florida?

Please come in and share your stories and experiences: good, bad, frustrating, humorous, or whatever. If you aren't in or from the South, come on in anyway and have a cup of coffee or glass of sweet iced tea. Join in the conversation and get to know what it's like to be a Catholic in the Bible Belt.

It's hard to believe a group of Catholics in the South could be over 500, (and still be such a great group, too), but there are still lots of people in our parishes that could benefit from belonging to a group like this. Please feel free to invite your family and fellow parishioners to join us. Even if they don't want to join a group, Catholic Answers is a great site for any Catholic. But invite them to join us, anyway.

Have a blessed day! Pax Vobiscum.

Holy War, I am so excited for you. Prayers were answered. We will all be praying for you and your dad.

Today , everything that I do will be offered for the conversions and for those who seek the truth.

    Have a blessed day everyone.

Holy War, that's good news. I know you've been so torn between family and faith. I really hope things get better now that he's at least willing to allow you to go through RCIA. We'll still pray for you, because there are still challenges before you. But your good news is music to the soul. God bless you and your dad. It can't be easy for him, since he thinks you're making a mistake, but maybe he'll finally see the light through you. Peace be with you!

I didn't see the eclipse, but the photos I've seen of it looked more like a gold ring than a ring of fire, (and I generally think of halos as more pure light than fire). Good observation, though. I wonder if anyone else thought of that.
Glad you were able to see the supermoon. It was so beautiful. Nature usually does a beautiful job of glorifying God. Even at its wildest and most terrifying, we see the splendor and might, the magnificence of God's power. And these are often the times after which we are given the opportunity to show God's love and mercy at work through us.

Missed the eclipse, and the last meter shower. I did get a great look at supermoon, though. Did anyone think Halo, rather than ring of fire?

Good morning, y'all! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday, and I truly hope and pray that everyone gets to go to Mass today!

Prayinghands, that must have been so moving to see a Rosary being prayed openly like that at a shrine of OLOG.
Much congratulations to your nieces, and we can join you in conversion prayers for them both, (as we do for so many)!

AAAND, it's that time of year again: hurricane season.
First tropical storm of the season, Alberto, is off the East Coast. I guess that should remind us to check our hurricane supplies and make sure everything is ready for the rest of the season.
Time to post the storm prayers again, too. I keep hard (paper) copies of these so I'll still have them if the electricity goes out.

    PRAYER AGAINST STORMS
Jesus Christ a King of Glory has come in Peace. †
God became man, † and the Word was made flesh. †
Christ was born of a Virgin. †
    Christ suffered. †
    Christ was crucified. †
    Christ died. †
Christ rose from the dead. †
    Christ ascended into Heaven. †
    Christ conquers. †
    Christ reigns. †
    Christ orders. †
May Christ protect us from all storms and lightning †
Christ went through their midst in Peace, † and the word was made flesh. †
Christ is with us with Mary. †
Flee you enemy spirits because the Lion of the Generation of Judah, the Root David, has won. †
    Holy God! †
    Holy Powerful God! †
    Holy Immortal God! †
    Have mercy on us. Amen!

PRAYER OR BLESSING AGAINST STORMS AND HURRICANES
Father, all the elements of nature obey Your Commands.
Calm the storms and hurricanes that threaten us, and
Turn our fear of Your Power into Praise of Your Goodness.
Grant this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who Lives and
Reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Hey Parce, I have been experiencing the allergy battles myself. Enjoying the Spring also, and yes the outdoors is where I would rather be.

Last night, while in a neighboring city, we drove by Our Lady of Guadelupe Shrine, a Rosary was being said, oh how beautiful.

Graduation in a few weeks for my twin nieces, oh how I pray for their conversion.

Have a wonderful and blessed day everyone.
