Thank you mslinda8393, Aquinas62, for your suggestions. I am extremely grateful for them. I would of bought music not knowing for sure what touches the soul. Even though we all have our own musical tastes and some songs touch us differently, I think when it is truely a work of love of the artist for God, it touches all. I studied,20 yrs ago, Baroque and other classics, and attended a Baroque concert played by an organist mainly and violinists. It was so marvelous and moved me so much.
But,sorry to say, I forgot names of musicians, except for Bach and Mozart. I will look into Chopin for sure and John Tavener's Eternal Sunrise.
johnXXII, I wish Gregorian Music was played at Mass. I live in TX and I had a friend who lived in Poland and was Greek Orthodox, studying to become a priest. He use to send me,over the internet songs they sang at their Mass. He was in the choir.
That was a while back and I think it is wonderful how Greek Orthodox really takes time and talent to have beautiful music which raises one soul to Heaven. I wish our Roman Catholic churches did this. Way too often, Masses consist of women in the choir scretching to reach a high note they ought never attempt, yet I give them credit for trying.
I think music was made for our souls and spirits, as all art forms are,but unfortunately today, just because some "artist" has an idea, even if a bad one is congradulated for their (lack of) talent. I am a fine artist, and when I went to art school, I could not believe what some considered beautiful art.
My art reflects the Baroque period. I was told all my life my family is related to Bach,my last name. We are are artists on bothsides of my family. Writers, musicians, painters, sculpturers, etc. Many are gone now though. I was fortunate to be born an artist and raised in that atmosphere. It was normal to go to plays, concerts, museums, etc. My aunt was the first woman violinest in the Milwaukee Symphony. I played piano by ear when younger. But my passion has always been fine arts of painting, but I love music, it is just my talents lie in a different form.
Thank you for listening to me rattle!!
I can not wait to purchase the music suggested. Thank you sooooo much!

I am a pianist, and feel very spiritually lifted whenever I play a prelude by Chopin. During meditation, and even the Rosary, I play instrumentals in the background. Sometimes it can actually take you to another plane as the Holy Spirit helps you pray.

John Tavener's Eternity's Sunrise is a wonderful journey into the soul... also I love medevial sacred music ie Hildegard Von Bingham and of course the many classics from the Baroque style.

Don't you beleive that Gregorian Music is the most imspiritional music in the Church and should be returned?
BENEDICT XVI ATTENDS SCREENING OF A FILM ON ST. AUGUSTINE

VATICAN CITY, 3 SEP 2009 (VIS) - Yesterday afternoon in the "Sala degli Svizzeri" of the Apostolic Palace at Castelgandolfo, Benedict XVI attended the screening of an abbreviated version of the film "St. Augustine", an Italian, German, Polish co-production. The film was made by Lux Vide/Rai Fiction, Bayerischer Rundfunk/Tellux Film, Eos Entertainment Rai Trade and Grupa Filmova Baltmedia. It was directed by Christian Duguay.

At the end of the screening, the Holy Father expressed his thanks to everyone involved in the project and pronounced some brief remarks. "I feel this film to be a spiritual journey in a spiritual continent, far distant from us yet at the same time very near because the human drama remains the same", he said.

"We have seen how, in a context far removed from our own, the reality of human life is represented with all its problems, sadness and failures, just as we have seen how, in the end, Truth is stronger than any obstacle and seeks out man. This is the great hope that remains at the end: we alone cannot seek out Truth, but Truth, which is a Person, seeks out us. Seen from the outside, the life of St. Augustine seems to finish tragically as the world for which and in which he lived comes to an end. But as was made clear in this film, his message remains and, even as the world changes, it endures because it comes from Truth and guides us to Charity, which is our shared destination.

"Thank you to everyone", he added in conclusion. "Let us hope that many people, watching this human drama, may be sought out by Truth and so discover Charity".

Saint August pray for us now and at the hour of our death, Amen

kwengkee_mgm, WOW, I am very impressed with your knowledge of music. I love music, but sorry to say, do not know much about it beside enjoying it. Years and years ago I sang in the Church choir. I was an alto singer.
I have been searching this past week for good church music in CD. But I do not know anymore who is good. Can you suggest any CD for me? I would like to hear people singing, because I would like to listen to the words. Also, besides this, I would like to know who is a wonderful group of Monks that sing chants in English. Usually I love Russian or Polish chants for the music, but miss not understanding the words. Any help is much appreciated!!

I love music. My aunt was first woman violinist in Milwaukee Syphony and growing up my dad and grandpa told us that we were related to Bach. My maiden name is Bach. My dad was born in Germany. Another relative wrote, Johnatan living seagul(forgive spelling) my dad loved music but did not play an instrument, but grandpa played piano and sax, I play piano, guitar, but my love is more in finearts. I am an oil painter and was told I would be famous in NY then that very yr,16 yrs ago became bedridden and can no longer paint. But draw some. Anyways, I come from families of all artists on both sides. I thought I would do the geneology for Bach side.
I gravitate to Baroque music. I like 'heavy' dramatic music that moves my heart and soul.

    Hello all!

I just sang the Tenor soloist in the VERDI REQUIEM at Davies hall in San Francisco with an amazing orchestra and a chorus of around 300. The experience was VERY moving. If you have not heard the peice... Please find it and put it on your stereo!! Very powerful, very pure, very passionate.

What all have you heard lately that has made you go "Ah! There's GOD in this!!!"?

As my instrumentalist friends like to point out I am not a musician I am a singer. First I was a child alto and then in junior high, a baritone because my voice changed early. A high school teacher pointed out that I was really a lazy tenor and I switched rather than fought.
I had the good fortune to sing with a "touring choir" in college and the very good fortune to sing with the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception choir here in Wichita for several years. Retired now due to tight vocal chords and old ears but still a lover of liturgical music.
