Saint Joseph Prayers

Group created by seraph

This group is dedicated to the devotion to St Joseph,

Head of the Holy Family
Guardian of the Virgin
Terror of evil spirits
Protector of the Church
Patron of the dying
Model of workers

Offer your thoughts, meditations, prayers, and all that would honor Saint Joseph for God's greater glory!

---
PRAYER OF POPE PIUS XII TO ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER
O glorious patriarch, St. Joseph, humble and just craftsman of Nazareth, you gave to all Christians, but particularly to us, an example of a perfect life of assiduous work and of admirable unity with Mary and Jesus. Help us in our daily work so that we might find in it an effective means of glorifying our Lord, of sanctifying ourselves and of being useful to the society in which we live.

Obtain for us from our Lord, O beloved protector; humility and simplicity of heart, attachment to work, benevolence toward those who work with us, compliance with the divine will in the difficulties of this life and joy in bearing them, consciousness of our specific social mission and the sense of our social responsibility, a spirit of discipline and prayer, docility and respect for our superiors, fraternity towards our equals, support in times of stress, charity and indulgence for our dependents.

Help us to follow your example and to keep our sight fixed on Mary, our Mother, your gentle wife, who wove silently in a corner of your humble shop, smiling sweetly. May we never advert our eyes from Jesus, who worked with you at your carpenter's bench, so that we may in like manner lead peaceful and holy lives on earth, the prelude to the eternally happy one which awaits us in heaven for ever more. Amen.

---
PRAYER OF PIUS X TO ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER

Glorious, St. Joseph, model of all who work, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my many sins; to work with gratitude and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop, by my labor, the gifts received from God; to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, never recoiling before weariness or difficulties; to work, above all, with pure intention and detachment from self, having always before my eyes death and the account which I must then render of time lost, of talents wasted, of good omitted, and of vain complacency in success, so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all through Mary, all in imitation of you, O patriarch Joseph. This shall be my motto in life and death. Amen.

---
PRAYER OF POPE LEO XIII TO ST. JOSEPH (to be said after the rosary)

To you, O Blessed Joseph, we come in our trials, and having asked the help of your most holy spouse, we confidently ask your patronage also. Through that Sacred bond of charity which united you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the fatherly love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you to look graciously upon the beloved inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by his blood, and to aid us in our necessities with your power and strength.

O most provident guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ. Most beloved father, dispel the evil of falsehood and sin. Our most mighty protector, graciously assist us from heaven in our struggle with the powers of darkness. And just as you once saved the Child Jesus from mortal danger, so now defend God's Holy Church from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity. Shield each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and help, we may be able to live a virtuous life, to die a holy death, and obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.

ST JOSEPH NOVENA (Opening prayer to St. Joseph for Faith)
Blessed St. Joseph, heir of all the patriarchs, obtain for me this beautiful and precious virtue. Give me a lively faith, which is the foundation of all holiness, that without faith which no one can be pleasing to God. Obtain for me a faith that triumphs over all the temptations of the world and conquers human respect; a faith that cannot be shaken and that seeks God alone. In imitation of you, make me live by faith and submit my mind and heart to God, so that one day I may behold in Heaven what I now firmly believe on earth. Amen.

77stanthony77, How happy you must have made your mother...spending her birthday with her. I would have loved for my children and grandchildren to have been here, but they all live elsewhere and did their best to express their love with phone calls, cards, flowers, etc. But, a real life hug can't be replaced.

Blessings to you and your mom.

beaumains, Thank you so much for the information. March 19 is always a double celebration for me...St. Joseph's Feast Day and my birthday! This year it will be a triple celebration with the inauguration of Pope Francis!

Most Catholic churches in my area celebrate with a Mass and a St. Joseph's altar which is laden with Sicilian meatless foods and very ornate breads and sweets. New Orleans even has a St. Joseph's Day parade! It is really a 'big deal' in this part of the country.

Hope you are remembering to say your novena.

    God bless.

    Tammany,
    Thanks for the welcome!
I'd be willing to bet it's on the internet - actually, I just checked, and it is. It's called Redemptor Custos. I'm reading a copy I found in my school's library, though : )

A week until St. Joseph's feast day! I decided this year to make a novena to him in preparation. Please pray that I can remember to keep the days. I can have the worst memory sometimes.

    God bless!

Hello, all - I've just joined the group. Has anyone here read Pope John Paul II's letter on St. Joseph? I'm making my way through it now, and really enjoying it.

    ST. JOSEPH'S VIRTUES
Words of Our Lady to St. Bridget of Sweden

"St. Joseph was so reserved and careful in his speech that not one word ever issued from his mouth that was not good and holy, not did he ever indulge in unnecessary or less than charitable conversation. He was most patient and diligent in bearing fatigue; he practiced extreme poverty; he was most meek in bearing injuries; he was strong and constant against my enemies; he was the faithful witness of the wonders of heaven, being dead to the flesh and the world, living only for God and for heavenly goods, which were the only things he desired. He was perfectly conformed to the Divine Will and so resigned to the dispositions of heaven that he ever repeated: 'May the Will of God ever be done in me!' He rarely spoke with men, but continually with God, whose Will he desired to perform. Wherefore, he now enjoys great glory in Heaven."

St. Joseph, Please pray for us.
