There is a Christmas Eve tradition in Poland of leaving one extra empty place setting at the Christmas Eve supper for a stranger, the "Unexpected Guest". This is to celebrate the tradition of hospitality in Poland. The extra seat was left open just in case a traveler, family member, or a friend appeared at the door, so there would be a place for them to sit.

This Christmas, let's welcome into our homes someone who has no place to go. Think of your co-workers or neighbors who have no one to share Christmas with.

Dzien dobry! I am 2nd generation Polish American (all 4 of my grandparents are from Poland). My Polish parish was closed by the Archdiocese 6 years ago, and all of my Polish contacts have scattered. I am hoping to connect with some Polish Catholics who understand and practice Polish traditions.

My last name is Sowinski, so joining is pretty much a requirement

I am a first generation Polish-American. At home, I speak Polish with my parents and sisters. We try and go visit all my relatives in Poland every 3-4 years. My Polish heritage has historically played a large role in my faith (both good/bad, in my opinion).
