Are there any Knight's Templars out there? I am the Secretary of the Knight's Templars here in Las Vegas and would like to know how to get more people involved in joining. Any suggestions?

    Orders of Christ

Orders Awarded by the Holy See or founded by Papal Bull:

This rarely given distinction cannot strickly be characterized today as an Order of Knigthood, but more as an award of Honor of the highest possible standing.

The recent reforms of the Papal Orders by Pope Paul VI: 1) The Order of Christ was reserved to Catholic Heads of State to whom it might be given only to commemorate very special occasions at which the Pope himself was present.

This Order was last awarded in 1987 to the late Fra Angelo de Mojara, 7th Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of his election to the Grand Magistery: he died the following year.

With the recent death of King Baudouin of the Belgins there are no living Knight's of the Papal Supreme Order of Christ and there is a considered opinion that the present Pope may have decided to let it fall into Abeyance, at least for the present.

The original foundation was actually a Religious Military Order under the rule of Saint Benedict, constituted iN Portugual by King Denis I on 14 August 1318, confirmed and granted satutory regulation by the Bull a ea ex quibus of Pope John XXII, given at Avignon 14/15 March 1319.

The Orders endowment was established with the surviving estates of the recently disolved Order of the Temple, just as in Spain most of these estates were used to establish the Order of Montesa.

The first Grand Master; Dom Gil Martins or Martinez, had been a Knight of Saint Benedict of Aviz.

Originally, a branch of the order of Calatrana, originally based at Castro Marino, in the Diocese of Faro, they moved their Headquarters to Thomar, near Santaran, in 1366 under the 6th Grand Master, Dom Nuno Rodriguez.

Although, at first, the Order's rules required the three vows of Poverty, Chastity and obedience, these were modified by Pope Alexander VI at the end of the 1st century, dispensing with that of poverty and allowing the Knight's to Marry, provided Commanders undertook to continue their respensions( One third of their revenue) to the Orders treasury.

    What we do, today:

I do not know what the other groups do, but what we do at the Knight's Templars is hold monthly meetings at a local casino coffee shop where we discuss what we are going to do or where the next Field trip is going to be.We have monthly newsletters and invite all that want to join. Membership is free and non-denominational.

These Field trips are very entertaining and interesting, If there is a cost in the Field trips, we vote on it. If we do not go to that one now, we can always go see it at another time.

We have attended the Renassiance Festival here in LV, at a local park, where actors and actresses put on shows.

We have attended a Renassiance festival at the ExcallIber Casino, where the Knights preform a Jousting tournament. There you would sit down at a long table and be served Chicken, but just like the olden days, you would have to eat with your fingers and drink with a goblet. There is a small Library there and a showcase of the Knights Templars swords and armor that they used in battles.

The Actors and Actresses are realistic and are dressed exactly as they were as if they were still in those times of the Knights Templars.

We do investigations of the Holy Shroud of Turin and my Grand Master has many pictures of The Holy Shroud of Turin.( Jesus face on the cloth)

We usually look for places to go that have KnightsTemplars relics and items from the olden days, or anything on The Holy Shroud of Turin.(Turin -is in Italy)

My Grand Master has a Shrine of relics and pictures of the Holy Shroud of Turin, in his home.
He collects anything and everything that has to do with the Knight's Templars.

I noticed that most of these smoke shops sell a lot of the Maltese cross items and most of the people that buy the Maltese crosses are
    the Bikers.

In my monthly newsletter for May 2009, I dedicated that newsletter to the Virgin Mary and posted her pictures on my newsletter.

When the King could not pay, he decreed everyone of the Knight's Templars to death.

Those numbers of the Knight's Templars went into Exile.

Between the time they were supressed until the time they were absorbed, is left to heresay and Myth.

Most fled to the Swiss Alps, Scotland and various countries.

The existance of the Templars with detailed records of all their business holdings and financial transactions, was never found.

By Papal Bull it was to have been transfered to the Hospitaliliers, whose Library was destroyed in the 16th century, by Turkish invaders.

Some scholars believe that some of the Templars fled into the Swiss Alps. As there are records in 1312, after the council of Vienne, and under extreme pressure from King Phillip IV, Pope Clement V issued an edict officially disolving the Order.

Many Kings and Nobles who had been supporting the Knight's up until that time, finally acquieseced and disolved the Orders in their fiffs in accordance with the Papal command.

Most were not so brutal as the French in England, many Knight's were arrested and tried, but not found guilty.

Most of the property outside of France was transfered by the Pope to the Knight's Hospitallier, and many surviving Templars were also accepted into the Hospitalliers, in Spain, where the King of aragon was against giving the Heritage of the Templars to Hospitilliers.(As commanded by Clement V) The Order of Montesa took Templar assets. The Order continued to exist in Portugual simply changing it's name to the Order of Christ.

There was record of 18 Templar ships being in port at La Rochelle, France, on October 12th 1807( The day before Friday the 13th) but the next day,the Fleets had vanished.

So what transpired in the 480 years between "suppression" and "absorption" ?

    Hi Spirithound! Welcome!

The Knights Templar was supressed in the year 1213 because King CharlesI of France owed a large sum of money, Because he wanted to remove his debt load he had the Order killed or supressed.

As it stands today, the Knights Templar were absorbed by the Masons around 1700. If you wish to join the Masons, you would have to contact a Mason of your State.

If you are in Las Vegas, Nevada, and wish to join, you can contact me.

Also, if you wish to view a good movie, you can check this one out; 'The secrets of the Knight's Templar." It is on the National Geographic Channel- on cable.

Hi, Simon Templar! Welcome!: I assume you have seen the movie: Simon Templar. It was a very good movie. I am going to give a brief history of the Knights.

    The history of the Knight;

The middle ages were characterized by wars of defense and expansion. The Ninth and Tenth centuries saw invasions by the vikings and magyars, followed later by the incursions into Eastern Europe by the Ottoman Turks. There were also, of course, the Norman Conquests of England and Southern Italy. And the German Conquests of Slav territories to the east. The period of the Crusades saw not only the Christian expeditions to the Holy land , but also the reconquest of Spain from the Moors. it was a time of convulsion, both politically and militarily. for the whole of Europe and the middle east. A time of monumental power struggles between the Popes and Emperors between Christianity and Islam. At the center of this battle-torn landscape, drenched in the blood of millions, stood the Knight. He was a paragon of virtue and the essence of war. The most powerful and deadliest element of any army. During the Medieval period, while all nobles of military age were necessarily Knights, Knighthood in martial terms had to be earned through some exploit involving the use of arms. Training for Knighthood began at an early age. Typically the sons of Nobles would be sent away at age seven to another Castle to serve as a Page. Pages were taught obedience and good manners, while also beginning their training in swordsmanship. At age fourteen the youngster became a Squire, whose job was to help a Knight prepare for battle, maintaining both armor and weapons and occasionally even following the Knight into battle itself. After four years experience of warfare, the Squire could become a Knight and be "dubbed." Dubbing was the ceremony in which a King or Queen tapped the Squire on the shoulder or neck with the flat of a sword, often following a vigil, a night of prayer and contemplation before an Altar. The newly dubbed Knight would fight either under his own banner (A Knight banneret) or under that of another (A Knight bachelor) and he would be accompanied in battle by his own Pages and Squires also with other servants. In fact, the Knight required the services of several attendants. One to conduct his horses, another to bear the weapons. Particularily the shield or escutcheon (The origin of the French escuyer, esquire) One to aid him in mounting his battle horse, or to help him to his feet if dismounted. And a fourth attendant to guard prisoners, especially those of noble birth, for whom a high ransom could be expected. It is east to see why the profession was a viable proposition only to those of noble birth and considerable financial resources. At the beginning of the twelfth century, the law of primogeniture became commonly accepted by the nobility. This law entitled the eldest son of a Liege Lord to inherit all of his fathers property. Primogeniture placed many vassals at a disadvantage in terms of land acquisition, since many of the Knights whose lands were given to them by their Liege Lords could find themselves landless when the Lord died and his son took over. This also was a tough law for the Lords other sons, who were legacy entitled to little or nothing when the Lord died. It was the dream of every Lords son to eventually own his own Estate. For this reason many younger sons set out on their own in search of wealth and glory. They were also frequently forbidden to marry, pute the land owning rights of the eldest sons descendants.
Although the word "Knight," most often conjures images of the magnificent warriors and Crusaders of the Medieval period, the origins of Knighthood go back much farther to ancient Rome and the equites, the mounted officers who held a special position in Roman Society. Medieval Knighthood had its roots in the Roman practices of "commendation," in which a Roman soldier would attach himself to a superior officer, pledging his military service in return for the granting of a piece of land.
