BookChrysalis Club

Group created by Sunflower15

Book reviews, ratings, recommendations, suggestions and enjoyment! Preferably with Catholic, or religious emphasis [even if non-Catholic].
Reading helps us to step into the authors' shoes and experience life differently from our regular daily lives. It also distracts us, and inspires us. Are there any book-lovers out there?

Hi Sunflower15 and fellow readers. I finally found my way here, having joined just recently. I love reading and have just 'bought' my husband a Kindle as a present, it is being shipped right now, so great excitement all round.

I just finished reading, "The Sayings of the Desert Fathers" that was recommended in a different section of this forum. The way the book is written it draws you into the life of these great men and women of God who lived in the ancient world a few hundred years after Jesus. On the mundane level I discovered their economy and how that worked. That is interesting. As for the spiritual aspects of the book, although I was not able to understand everything said, there is a lot I did and this makes the book most valuable. Sadly, what stood out the most is that if these monks had ever met me, they would have not tolerated my presence - either telling me to leave or themselves fleeing from my sight.

Greetings from the Texas Hill Country. This is the first group I've joined. Elsewhere on Catholic Answers I was able to put two books into my Amazon cart. So I love a good religious book.

I am also a writer. I have two completed books and both are FREE. Never felt comfortable charging for something about God. The one book I have in mind is located on my personal website: www.cedarpost.com. Donations are NOT accepted. A review would be welcome.

Of the two, "Abandoned" is the book I thought would best fit in with this group. There is even a short book trailer you can watch. Although written in 3 parts, the book is not very long. I wrote it to move right along. The Catholic parts appears in Part 3. I used the framework of a religious thriller to make in interesting. But even this is based on facts. As for the religious parts, I think as a writer of religious material, there is a added responsibility to be truthful.

So again, you can look at the book trailer (think movie trailer) and take a look at the book. Writing this book has brought me much closer to the wonderful Catholic faith. Seriously, ten years ago when I started writing this book, I would have never said that. I am happy to say it now.

I have found a lot of peace and happiness in reading lately, especially since I am more or less housebound due to illness (Lyme Disease since 1985 or so). Magazines are fun too!

I'm new to the group. I love reading Catholic books. I'm a very busy mom of four 5 years old and under. now that school is starting I'll have more time to read again. My favorite book this year was "He Leadeth Me" by Fr Walter Ciszek

    Love Inspired BOOKS tm
    (Riveting Inspirational Romance)

OKAY would any of you Ladies enjoy this?

Would any of you like to read one of these books together and discuss it?

I just bought 4 from the above company:

The Baby's Bodyguard - Stephanie Newton
    Buried Truth - Dana Mentink
On DEADLY GROUND - Lauren Nichols
Once Upon A Cowboy - Pamela Tracy

And I'd love to read any of these with you, if you are so inclined? The company prints fiction/romance books about Christians, as far as I understand it. And these books are not racey or anything from my experience.

New children's ebook titled The Thistledown Chronicles with Catholic themes currently available on Smashwords.com but soon to be available more broadly; log on and submit a review if you like the description: The Thistledown Chronicles is a charming children’s story about a courageous little tuft named Wisp who dares to control his flight on an amazing adventure to see the Grand Canyon. Wisp discovers his purpose in life as he embarks on the journey of a lifetime, learning the values of faith, friendship, commitment and sacrifice along the way. Wisp and his friends prove that even a tiny thistledown tuft can make a lasting difference. Thanks! http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/41258
