Your post does lead me to another question, however: your mentioning "young professionals" is something I've noticed a lot when researching Opus Dei. For example, the Study Center close to where I reside also has programs geared towards "young professionals and students." I'm pretty much neither of those. I have a blue collar job and would not consider what I do to be in the "professional" category at all. And I don't really consider myself young either .

Why is Opus Dei seemingly geared towards "young professionals?" The term "professional" makes it sound like an elitist organization. Is there a place for a blue collar guy in Opus Dei? Am I going to be out of place?
Hi, Could you post some info regarding the recollection evening you were going to attend? I'm going on my first recollection evening ever this Thursday and I'm not sure what to expect. I'm based in UK and as far as I know the group I'm going to join is very small. I have been thinking about what to expect, what I should take with me and what the dress code is. It may sound funny but I've never been to a recollection evening before so I'm a bit nervous but also excited. It will also be my second visit to the local OD centre as well.

A circle is so called because it never ends. As you finish with all the virtues, you begin again.
it is on-going formation to help us to keep these aspects of christian living ever in mind and to practise them often, making improvements all along

Your question made me smile. The beauty of Opus Dei is that one remains just the same as before one met it. Workplace, home, hang-out places etc. As long as these things are honorable, nothing about them changes. Now to the question: how do supernumeraries get marriage partners since their activities are for same gendered people?

Why? Just the same way everyone else does! They go to the same parish as others, work in the same place as others, live in the same community as others etc.

I'm so glad that this group is here. Opus Dei is a great organization and would love to see it form a chapter in here in the Hickory-Charlotte NC. area.

    Greetings!

I'm currently in a location that is nowhere near an Opus Dei center, but I am interested in discerning whether I have a vocation. If nothing else, I would like to be directed in spiritual formation within an Opus context. Any of the Opus Dei members on the forum have suggestions? Am I just out of luck unless I move?

    Thanks,

    Josh

I've been interested in Opus Dei for awhile. I'm not at the stage where I'm ready to join yet (I'm still trying to finish up RCIA and should do things open step at a time), but I would like to learn as much as possible about Opus Dei to help make my decision. I hope this group can help me do this.

    Thanks
In the centers of Opus Dei, it is the ordinary form of the Mass, but said in Latin if only members of Opus Dei are attending. I don't know though if it is true in all parts of the world though.
Most members of Opus Dei don't live in Centers though, so if you would be attending the extraordinary form elsewhere, it would probably be encouraged if it facilitates your piety.

Being courteous is the first manifestation of charity. Therefore, in the daily routine and in the life in society, we should be gentle and always act on good manners. But our "manners" are linked to what actually we are. So to be truly educated, we need to educate ourselves as human beings, which cover more than knowledge of rules of good manners, than the knowledge of "etiquette". Learn only the "etiquettes" such as "artifice" for the time of the job interview does not make us educated. For this reason, the Life In Society site covers besides the main concepts of manners, some introductory informations about human virtues and christianity. Our faith sustains and guides our values, our values shape our virtues and from them arise the reasons for the good manners.

How a Christian should see the Good Manners in daily life?

"Much of our life is made up of short meetings with people we see in the elevator, in line at the bus stop, in the waiting room of the doctor, during the traffic jam of a big city or in a single drugstore of the small city where we live ... and even if they are sporadic and fleeting moments, they are many during the day and countless over a lifetime. For a christian, they are important moments because they are occasions that God gives you to pray for these people and show them your appreciation, just as it should happen among those who are children of the same Father. We used to do this through details of education and courtesy that we usually have with anyone, and easily become into vehicles of the supernatural virtue of charity. Are you interested in Catholic catechesis and apologetics? Can you give a short, reasoned answer to a question about the faith and can you back it up with references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Sacred Scripture, or documents put out by the Magisterium? Are you a prayerful Christian who wants to pass the faith along to the next generation?

If you are, I could definitely use your help. I am the Supervisor on WikiAnswers for the Catholicism section, my name is James Hough, and my handle over there is PiusX. We get dozens of questions a day, I have had this job for several years, and am currently between 20,000 and 40,000 questions behind. At the moment, I have one other Catholic person helping me, he is handling the subcategories like Popes, Saints, Mother Teresa, Mother Mary, etc.

WikiAnswers is a world-wide answer site, it is not Catholic; Religion and Spirituality, which includes Christianity, of which we are a subcategory (on WikiAnswers) is a difficult area to work in. The Catholic Section is NOT a specific subsection so much as an easy way for the computer to organize questions in hope of an answer. A specific Catholic answer should be labeled as such, and may be one of many other answers, depending on the question.

We who work in WikiAnswers are working out in the world, among Protestants, pagans, atheists, you name it. WikiAnswers has categories on different sciences, sexual practices, witchcraft, geology, etc. Our particular little corner was overrun by hard-core Protestant evangelists before I took over as Supervisor. We also have a contingent of Anglicans who believe that the Catholic Church has only survived in England, and that Rome went into apostasy at Trent, right alongside the readers of Chick Publications.

If you would be interested in helping out with this work, please email me at piusxi@embarqmail.com. You should have, at the very least, a Catechism, a copy of the Scriptures with a Imprimatur, and I would recommend a good Catholic dictionary such as Modern Catholic Dictionary by John A. Hardon, S.J. You also need a regular prayer life, a sense of humor, a love of children, and a love for our separated brethren. This is an all-volunteer site. This new generation of children think that they can sit down at a computer and type a question into their browser bar and the computer is going to give them the answer. Eight times out of ten Google and other search engines are going to present them with answers from WikiAnswers - there is a crying need for people to help! Please pray about this and email me if you have some time available, even an hour or so a week.

    James

HI. I am new to Opus Dei and I feel that it is an answer to a prayer. This past year, I've noticed I've forgotten God often during my daily work and have been hungering for unity of my life with my faith. I am very excited to have found this information especially at a time when it seems like all reminders of God are disappearing from the culture.

Hello everyone! Boy, am I glad to have found this group. I thought I couldn't join groups since I had trial membership (don't understand it). Well, I love Opus Dei, though in the public threads I have been in a frustrating argument with someone who is bringing many controversial things about Opus Dei from ODAN.
Can I get some answers from someone who knows what Opus Dei is all about?

I teach at an Opus Dei school and something in me wishes it could be strong to become a supernumerary. My husband studied at Opus Dei schools as a child and I feel like I fell in love with a man with very strong virtues. He attributes it to God first and firemost, God working in him through his family and his school environment.

Most of my teacher friends are supernumeraries or numeraries. I have become very close to some of them and I have learned much from them. I've attended several retreats and conferences and since I've read more and more on Saint Josemaria and think he is such a wonderful saint!!!

Hi everyone, I am new to the group and website. I am intrigued by Opus Dei (not the movie version - LOL).

I visited the website http://www.opusdei.org/ and I read the below:
Opus Dei is a Catholic institution founded by Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Its mission is to spread the message that work and the circumstances of everyday life are occasions for growing closer to God, for serving others, and for improving society.

It is the circumstances of everyday life and the improvement of society that I have thought about on my own independent of studying about Opus Dei that I found very interesting when I read about it. It is as if my thoughts were guided independently to be parallel with those words.

    Hi all,

The feast day of Our Father is coming up really soon. I've known Opus Dei for 17 years now, and I've been a cooperator since 2001. Glad to have found this group.
