Have you ever been to the Cistercian Abbey of New Clairvaux in Vina, CA?

    http://newclairvaux.org

This place looks marvelous from the website (lots to explore there), although Vina looks to be a very long way from the Bay area (if that's where you are). I can't tell how traditional they may or may not be from my first glance at the website, and I don't see anything about their having Lay Associates either, which is the Cistercian version of a Benedictine Oblate (more or less).

Back to the Camaldolese, if I were more outgoing, I would want to discuss the whole traditional vs. modern issue with one of the monks at New Camaldoli. If they use the NRSV in their liturgies, I would want to know why. Something tells me they did not come to the decision so easily; probably debated the pros and cons before choosing. I would want to know if they felt a person with traditionalist leanings had a place with them. Are they even open to these concerns? Just a few thoughts, anyway.

    God bless you,
    Chris

    Chris,
Thanks. Looks like it's the OFS after all. Major roadblocks with the Bennies. I tried Vina. They don't seem to have oblates.

    Thank you again

Pray for an increase in faith, then listen in your heart.

The truths of our religion have always been true no matter what people thought was true.

God has been with you all along throughout your journey and will be with you to the end.

    God bless +

instead of the Liturgy of the Hours valid?

I am not speaking of it as a private devotion. I am asking if praying the MD is "praying with the Church"?

I mean absolutely no disrespect to those who pray the MD in any way. I am interested in it, but I want to be praying with the Church, above all.

    Thank you.

Hello Jason. It is interesting that you should post this now. Yesterday I made my full oblation at St Gregory's Abbey. Yesterday was our annual Spring Oblate Day. Were you there? I also received your message and I'll probably continue this discussion by email, though since it is the middle of the night as I write this, that will be later today or tomorrow. Indeed I hope you do consider becoming a part of the St Gregory family. Welcome.

    San Gregorio was a deacon

Our holy Father San Benedetto was also not a priest..

Nothing against priests (but for them I would see nothing bodily of my Lord Jesus Christ on Earth [ie, we have our Lord here in the Eucharist]).

Still nice to know that we may become saints without Orders, though

Post #38 . . . by poster BigRedpg51 . . . as an answer to this question on your other thread is perfection . . . (for the rest of our forum members here is the link: http://forums.catholic.com/showthrea...69#post5621969 . . . re Question #2 I posted an answer as the thought for today . . . and the answer to your Question #3 is no . . .

Welcome to the Benedictine Spirituality Forum vipinwilliam . . . it's so nice to see someone from India come into our Forum . . . we are very much an international group . . . We are listening and learning about Benedictine Spirituality at the . . . Holy Feet of our Lord . . . through our wonderful guide . . . the Blessed Holy St. Benedict . . . through daily reading his Holy Rule . . . We have just begun the second cycle of daily readings . . . going through little Rule in its entirety each cycle . . . so you have joined us at the perfect time . . . we post new readings from St. Benedict each day . . . and day by day we grow more and more deeply in the ways of St. Benedict and knowledge of those ways as we reflect upon these readings . . . and because St. Benedict had his monks and nuns use the Psalter daily and required knowledge of it in its entirety . . . we study a Psalm from Sacred Scripture ever day . . . in depth . . . to comply with this instruction . . . which Psalm is also posted daily . . . God bless . . .

I asked these questions in the general forums, with no luck

    I'll retry here

    Question 1
I know (or think I do ) that the Benedictine Motto is

ORA et LABORA (Pray and Work)

but I often see the following figuring prominently (or maybe more precisely more prominently than ORA et LABORA) at some Benedictine sites:

    Ut in Omnibus Glorificetur Deus
( That In All Things God May Be Glorified)

Can someone explain to me how the above phrases "fit" into the charism of San Benedetto?, ie, is one more important/more used/more accurately a description of who we (in my case soon to be part of we ) are/what we do than the other?
I am just wondering if one or the other (or both) are the "motto" (I know that is a very poor word to use) of the Benedictines.

    Question #2

Am I correct that St Gregorio (Gregory the Great), whose feast we celebrate today, was a Deacon (ie, not a priest)?

    Question #3

Is there way to subscribe to the Wall here (so I can tell from the main forum page if there are new posts)?

    Thanks!
