    Hello,

I have been praying the rosary for 4 years now and it has brought tremendous peace to my life. I have recently started making rosaries and giving them away. I place an ad on craig's list for a free rosary and get quite a few requests. I have also now placed an ad in our local smart shopper paper too.

The rosary draws me ever closer to Jesus and the Divine Mother. My wife and I enjoy making rosaries for those in need both near and far. Would love to be in touch with others that craft rosaries too. We currently make only plastic beaded ones with knotted cord.

Looks like it has been a while since there has been a posting. If you have a love of making the rosary, drop a note here, so we can share your joy with you

I still have not figured out how post my pictures here, but I was able to post them to another site. If you guys have heard of www.awestruckglobal.com. Its free and kind of like facebook, for Catholics. I created a rosary makers group there and uploaded some photos of my rosaries to it.

I had a friend ask me about making a rosary of the seven dolors (or sorrows) of Mary (http://www.catholic.com/quickquestio...-dolors-rosary). After looking at various websites on what is looks like, has anyone made a twine, or even beaded, rosary of this type?

    Peace!

What a dope I've been! The new knotting tools came in, 4 at 8-1/2" long. I fretted about having to hunt for a bigger camera case. It never occurred to me to cut the tools in half, use a rattail rasp on the cut-off ends and I will end up with 8 knotting tools.

I can go back to Walmart and pick up an el cheapo camera case and some folding scissors and I'm good to go.

    Thanks to all who responded.

    Hi angelcoco,
I got onto rosary making earlier thus year. I make knotted twine rosaries and single decade bracelets. I have recently started using metal beads for the rosaries (was already doing so with bracelets).
Sorry, but I do not understand what is meant by mission style rosary. I would like to know how to make chain link rosaries.

I am new to these forums and to forums in general so I apologize if these questions have been answered already.

    God Bless

Hi Tonix, am so sorry I was not here to answer your questions. I had to take some time off...I lost my mom last December and I guess it has taken me sometime to recover... If you are still in this group and would like to comunicate with me I be glad too.

I know what you mean about the Flex Wire...Did you know that one can use regular fishing line to make a Rosary. I found out a long time ago that before Flex wire or the likes people used fishing line. In my private collection I have 2 that I know have been around more that 40-50 years.

Fishing lines come in various weights and it is quite strong and very pliable. I would not let a child play with it, but then one should not let a child play with it. I have used it many times over and no one has complained. Of course, I let them know that it is fishing line.
Well Tonix if you are around give me a holler and maybe I can be of some help. God Bless you and yours, Angel hugs, Coco

As for the question about the crucifix versus the cross, idol worship, and blessings. Personally, as a Catholic, I'm old-fashioned and don't see a rosary with a cross and no corpus as a real rosary. It might be a nice piece of artwork or jewelry, but it's not a rosary. But, my opinion has nothing to do with any church laws or rules. There's no where I know of that states what does and doesn't constitute a rosary or a chaplet. It's just me being an old fashioned Catholic. I'm used to seeing a crucifix (cross with corpus) on a rosary rather than cross alone. Objects such as rosaries, statues, or even water don't, by themselves, convey or produce sanctifying grace. Objects such as these, especially when blessed, are called sacramentals - not to be confused with sacraments such as baptism, matrimony, hold orders, reconciliation, etc., which do produce grace. The rosary is a tool to assist a person in prayer - nothing more, nothing less. If a person believes that the tool is their god and has magical power, then this is idolatry. A person may get their rosary blessed. The blessing doesn't confer any special magic on the rosary (or whatever object is being blessed). A priest prays to God for us that He will bless the rosary or object to be of good use to us and increase our faithfulness, or to better assist us in prayerful conversation with our Lord. Personally, I have no problem seeing the young kids wearing rosaries as jewelry. If, perhaps, some day they take the rosary off and wonder what it's really for and begin praying it, then it will be a blessed day for that kid and everyone. I do have a problem with people using rosaries in awful ways because of what the rosary means to me.

I like to use Snapeez II Ultraplate jumprings on all the jewelry and rosary pieces I make. See www.viamurano.com. They come in all various sizes, finishes, and base metals. Plus, they cut the splits in such a way that when you join the ends they sort of snap together tightly. See their video on their website. I have never had a problem with chain links or other findings slipping through the split, and I've never had to solder the splits (or dab a little gel superglue on the split). They're a bit pricier than bead stores or hobby stores, but they're nice and well worth it. The most comprehensive supplier of jewelrymaking supplies is probably Rio Grande. See www.riogrande.com. They'll send you their giant catalog if you buy something off their website. It's really incredible. Way more stuff than you'll find at a local bead store. I also like cruising the bead shows that come to town. See www.intergem.com. Lots of vendors selling beads, findings, and chain, although not many sell quality inexpensive crucifixes and centerpieces. Pax et Bonum!

Thank you for posting your link! I've been thinking about using the small clear beads like that, but just wasn't sure how much it would improve the look- I love it! I will definitely be doing that from now on!
I started making them too because I thought it would be a very special thing to do and then I know that I get exactly what I want, unlike when you settle for a store one- or spend an arm and a leg for a beautiful one.
I'm also excited about the idea of rosary bracelets now. Thanks so much for posting your site!!!

hi everybody...i'm brand new, and was happy to see a group for folks who make rosaries. i'm posting a link to my etsy page (i'm not trying to get sales, i'm not that type of girl) so you can see what type of rosaries i make. i make 'wired' rosaries, and have recently picked up a technique where you use two wires instead of just one; this doubles the tensile strength of the rosary, while also giving it this neat woven look. i'm really digging it. plus, i make rosary bracelets. i make regular bracelets too, but haven't been able to list any cos they all get snatched up by my family and friends! but i love to make rosaries; it's a very meditative, zen-like experience for me. and i really enjoy making funky, unique rosaries; it's hard to find the perfect rosary in a store. yay for making rosaries! i look forward to sharing our experiences!

    Hi Jeralyn!

Thanks for your post! I started by ordering a starter kit online from Lewis & Company. Just google "Lewis & Company" and it will take you to their site which includes "Introductory Kits".

If you want to make knotted twine rosaries, google "Rosary Army". They have a video that teaches you how to make them.

Hope this helps! Let us know how it's going!

    Hi all!
I make knotted twine rosaries, I sent some to Rosary Army, some to Fr. Hannigan in Iraq, and a bunch as the Spirit moves me. Here's a link to my flickr page that has a few of my rosaries. I get twine from FNT, The Fish Net Co., Divine Twine, and Shady Twine. Google (or Goodsearch) any of them to find some fine twine! I am especially fond of Divine Twine--Teena and Cheryl do great work.
I am finding the layout of this group hard to navigate, but I will check in as often as I can.
God Bless you all for your good work!

HELLO AmyMart! WELCOME! I am so THRILLED for you and your son that you have been able to enroll him in a Catholic School!! HURRAY. I was not able to do so with my son, but when my son was in third grade, I was finally able to enroll him in Sunday school and I was finally able to become a consecrated catechist! That was in 2003, so I feel somewhat equipped to answer your questions!!

I'm so happy that you have become a Rosary Maker!!! Did you know that the Blessed Mother gives rosary makers special promises? If you don't know about the 15 Promises, check out the youtube link I posted above on this site (the one with the musical harp playing). As a rosary maker, you get the special blessings of THE ENTIRE CELESTIAL COURT !

    Now...in answer to your questions:

    1. You can use any color bead or even a mixture! In fact...you don't have to even use beads! (Sometimes I wire wrap small rocks into my rosaries.)

    2. You don't have to have anything blessed unless you want to. Each rosary maker has there own special way of treating this. Here are some options:

Give the finished rosaries unblessed and let the receiver of the rosaries know that they haven't been blessed yet. (Maybe the pastor and the teachers could arrange for a group rosary blessing with all of the children...that way they are part of the process.)

Take all the finished rosaries to the pastor to have them blessed before giving them to the children. Blessings can be done with or without Holy Water. (I like having mine blessed with Holy Water.) Once they are blessed, they become SACRAMENTALS and require respectful treatment. Tell the recipients of your blessed rosaries that if for any reason they need to be disposed of, the only proper way to do this is to respectfully bury or burn them.

I have some blessed beads and components, but I always wait to have mine blessed after I finish making them. That way, the entire rosary is blessed. Whatever beads or components you want to bless ahead of time is up to you! Just let your recipients know.

There's no such thing as blessing a rosary too many times! I remember working with some 4th graders (especially the boys) who were always very excited own "double" or more blessed rosaries!

    3. Your gift of these rosaries to these children is TOTALLY appropriate and so beautiful. Some of the children may have already received rosaries from their First Communion, HOWEVER, DON'T LET THIS DISUADE YOU!! There is no such thing as having too many rosaries. In fact, at my Sunday school, I made sure everyone got TWO rosaries...one to have and one to give away!

I hope this info is helpful. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to post a note! Let us know how your rosaries are coming along!

Again...WELCOME and GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

Hello, My name is Amy and I am new to the board and a new Rosary beader! I enrolled my son in Catholic school this year (3rd Grade) and he came home asking me if he could bring his Rosary Beads to school because they say the Rosary every day after lunch. I did not want to send our "Good" Rosary beads to school because I would be devastated if they were lost! So, I decided to make some. Which then made me think about making a set for all of the kids and then my son can give them to the kids at Christmas. Now a few questions. I ave a bajillion different colored beads! Can I use any color bead? I had a friend who used to make and give away rosary beads and always had them "blessed". Is this a usual practice? Is it OK to use them without having them blessed? Also, because this is a Catholic School I am assuming this would be appropriate to give? I would love to hear what everyone thinks! Thanks, Amy

    Hi Yankeemanmp!
How incredibly beautiful your rosaries sound! For something like this, I would use 24 or 26 guage Sterling Silver or Gold Filled wire and wire wrap the components together, if you can.

Otherwise, you will need two pair of pliers to open and close a jump ring. Hold the jump ring with one pliers and twist open and closed with the other.

See if you can purchase Sterling Silver or Gold Filled jump rings at a beading supply store...or order them on line. Picking them out in person is best, however, then you can see what you get before purchase and you don't have to wait.

Also, you might want to see if the rosaries will tolerate larger jump rings.

    Hope this helps!
