Oh wow, that's so cool! Kitty did that the other night with her right eye and I thought maybe one of the other cats scratched her. Then last night she did it with her left eye!
She loves me!

What situations provoke him to do this?

I'm glad I'm moved in with a friend now and away from the restrictions of renting. She has 3 cats! I already had 2 bunnies so I couldn't get a cat of my own. These cats are full of personality - the two that are sisters from the same litter practically speak English, they have such a vocal range. The little tabby-tortie was riding around under the hood of my friend's car as a teensy stray kitten - I think St. Francis must have been interceding for her! Amazing she didn't fall out or into the engine. Anyway, she's a happy, somewhat shy but loving full grown cat now.

He's a death-defying cat who stayed put and stayed alive — for two days in the Everglades.
Sam, an 11-year-old gray feline, was feared lost after he ran into the bush after his owner Nikki Saltzburg's minivan was involved in a wreck with another vehicle on Alligator Alley east of Naples Monday.

After being pulled from the minivan, Saltzburg, who has been a paraplegic since she was only a few days old, saw the broken cat crate in the grass. Sam had dashed off into the bush.
Amid the chaos, Saltzburg was bleeding from multiple cuts and Mara had suffered a fractured pelvis. Their infant son, Parker, was somehow unharmed.
Saltzburg wanted to look for the cat but couldn't. They all needed to be taken to a hospital.

With Sam's survival very much in peril, Loge proposed forming a search party and going out to look for the missing cat.
On Wednesday, Kathleen Sullivan, who works at the Brigid's Crossing Foundation cat sanctuary in Naples, drove out to the Alley with her husband Christopher to look for Sam. When they got to the site of the crash near mile marker 97, they found the cat waiting in the bush. He had barely moved from the scene of the collision.
Saltzburg, Loge and Santomero were all stunned that Sam was found unharmed.
"The chances of finding that cat were almost zero," Santomero said. "I absolutely think it's a miracle."
"With everything that's out there, the snakes, gators and turkey vultures, I'm shocked that he survived," Loge added.
Loge, who has been been caring for Sam, said she'd drive him down to Miami when the Saltzburgs get settled.

Cast aside all fantasies of your house cat frolicking through flower-filled fields in the afternoon sun. When kitty scratches at the door begging to go outside, it's the killing hour.
USA Today reports that a study of outdoor feline behavior found that cats kill far more prey than previously believed. Research compiled by the University of Georgia found that 30 percent of roaming house cats kill an average of two animals per week.
"The previous estimates were probably too conservative because they didn't include the animals that cats ate or left behind," University of Georgia researcher Kerrie Anne Loyd says.

Cats, like humans, often hunt for pleasure rather than need. If your cat isn't used to going outdoors, please consider not allowing the habit to develop.

Sorry.
But God bless you anyway. You shared the story.

I emailed Ugly's story to my sister. She had a cat that was mauled by dogs and died. Evidently the cat was horribly mutilated and nobody would allow my sister to see her. After she read Ugly's story she cried and held her present cat for a long time, listening to her purr. I just read the story again and I'm crying.
It's a remarkable story and can teach us so much. Sometimes I honestly think that God sends these little teachers to us, to help us know what is really important in life. I've learned so much from my cats and dogs.

Also the purring . . . what's not to love!
My friend used to have a dog that would "purr" when you petted him - but it was just a brief thing, not the rhythmic purr of a kitty. It was endearing though.
But I do still prefer cats myself.

I have only had one cat that was stray I couldn't get totally tamed into a perfect pet, and it was only because that one kept getting chased off by my other, the yellow tabby male thing going on there, ie. that breed has a tendacy to be dominate with no room for a pecking order of another just like it, so only one male yellow tabby among the bunch in almost all cases.
With the volume of animals that are put down or left to wander the streets, it's absolutely not responsible to go to the pet store and pick up some kitten, too much of the problem resides in our tendency to just want a kitten, when in reality, that tiny cute kitten will be a full grown cat within just a few short months, so that tiny cute stage is only a brief period of time you get to experience with them. Cat lives can be 20+ years, that's a very long time to be responsible for a pet, and taking in a stray or one you got in a shelter reduces that time, it gives them a second chance at life in the process. Most shelters destroy them within a week or two, so you are literally saving their lives by adopting them. I also found some of the absolutely most loving cats were strays I took in, the ones born at my place, or adopted as kittens take everything for total granted, not the strays.
One of my last successful ferral conversion wandered into my shop, skin and bones, fur falling off, wouldn't let you get near him, and as soon as I showed up, he would bolt. It took several months for him to realize I am no threat, all he knew was that there was food and water available here, and there were other cats that showed up, mine by now are so used to dealing with strays, it doesn't even alarm them if some strange cat shows up, so not a lot of fighting, some hissing, but that's about it, they've seen all of this before, and it's routine.
After he finally got used to my presence, and I was able to pet him, he really warmed up to me, much more so then the cats that were born at home, and he fattened up and his fur came back perfectly. I found him a home next door, and the neighbors tend to spoil their animals. He only lived less then a year afterwards, he was an old cat to begin with, I knew that, but his last days at least, he was well taken care of, loved, and died peacfully. I don't know the story of his life prior to showing up, but it's obvious he was abused, when I was petting him earlier on, I had to switch hands, causing one of them to go into what appeared to be a backhand to him, as in he was backhanded by either his previous owner, or someone trying to drive him away, it was a painful lesson for both of us, since he bit me in that process "I was also moving a little too fast on the rehabilitation as well", but seeing the state he was in when he showed up, and his last days, were dramatically different.
There is a reward for taking in these guys, they may not live as long, but you know you made a big difference in their lives, these are not just things to be cast to the side, and sadly, too many pet owners think that's all they are.
