Fiber Arts Enthusiasts

Group created by Irish Kathy

I've thought about this idea from time to time for some time now. What finally made me decide we need a group like this is because there are so many people out there who enjoy knitting, crochet, quilting, tatting, or any of the other forms of fiber art.

As for me, I've been crocheting in some form or other for many years. I've also done a bit of quilting, and experimented with knitting. Anyway, I've just begun a formal knitting class for the first time in my life. So I decided the time was right to have a permanent place for people who enjoy Fiber Arts in all their firms to discuss their interest with others. I'm looking forward to the discussion.

Beginners and Professionals: ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!!!

Hi Ladies* Hello Quilisma, you should consider writing.... you created a great visual with your little story....! I just stopped in tonight for a few minutes of quiet time.... I really enjoy the whole forum and reading all the great info that is available for us all* I just covered my antique Bible with a handsewn velvet cover, now I am going to applique a cross on the front.... my old old Bible is trying to come apart at the seams so the new cover is going to help keep it together and me too! I hope everyone has a great evening and Blessings to everyone! Anna Christine

Hello! My name is Heather, my favorite hobby is crocheting! I'm so happy that I found this group My Grandma taught me how to crochet and knit when I was little, but I didn't really appreciate this knowledge until my adulthood. I lookforward to getting to know everyone here God Bless!

Greetings! I'm an avid quilter. I teach a beginning quilt class at our local community center and hope to start a quilting group at my parish some day if I can find enough interested people. I used to knit and crochet, but my carpel tunnel is way too bad now to accomplish much of that, but I do long to pick up the needles!

What a great idea! Having been fascinated since childhood with the textile arts and with faith, I've always loved it whenever something I was reading pointed out a connection between the two.

Tradition has it that the Virgin Mary was a talented spinner and weaver (she is said to have woven, seamlessly, the robe for which the soldiers on Calvary cast lots). If I could paint, I would love to do a Nazareth scene along these lines:

It's evening and the Holy Family is winding down by the fire after dinner. Joseph is, perhaps, whittling out some small parts for tomorrow's carpentry project. Jesus, a little boy of maybe three or four, might be playing at Mary's feet with a ball of yarn from her basket, leading a cat (that they might have brought back from Egypt?) pouncing across the floor after one end of the yarn. Mary, meanwhile, might be watching Jesus playing as she spins from a bundle of flax or wool. (Or maybe she's weaving, while Jesus plays with her spindle as if it were a top.)

That's what I would paint, if I were that kind of an artist.

    Hi Kathy & Anna,
Christ's blessing on you both. I found an old table top weaving loom that I had squirrled away and completely forgot about. I think I'm going to play with it and see what happens! I'd like to try and do a small rug for my kitchen in front of the sink. I won't use wool though. I'm going to try fabric strips so I can wash it.
    Have a wonderful day.

Hi Arlene and Anna Christine -- It's so nice to meet both of you. I just know that we're going to enjoy talking about our mutual interest here. I'm going to my second knitting class tomorrow. I think I'm doing pretty good so far. But it's still too soon to really tell. I've made many afghans over the years with crochet.

Arlene, I think it's great that both you and your husband spin. BTW, there's a Farm Show that goes on near Pittsburgh that they broadcast on TV. I always enjoy watching part of the the Sheep to Shawl contest. I have a friend who has another friend who spins her own yarn with alpacha wool. I think it would be so cool to spin my own wool. I've also always thought that weaving would be a neat past time. It must be nice to have your own business doing something you love.

Anna, you are so right, we do all need to pray for Haiti. Like you, I do like all forms of fabric. My sister and I both made attended a group right before Christmas and made some fleece blankets. It was fun because we met some wonderful ladies. I'm looking forward to doing it again next year too (if possible).

I'm looking forward to getting to know both of you better.

    Hi,
I'm a spinner, knitter & lover of yarn. I dabble with felting and quilting and am a practicing Catholic. Hubby is a spinner too. Right now I'd like to work on some thrum knitting. Looks so cozy to have fleece lined mittens & slippers I work full time at our online yarn & fiber business.
