OCD/Scrupulosity Group

Group created by AFCatholic

This group is for those who suffer from a religious form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). From the Scrupulous Anonymous website "Older people may be troubled about past sins, others agonize about problems of obedience and purity, and many worry about sin where there is no sin. Their fear and anxiety prevent them from making decisions lest they be wrong ones." This forum is for discussion and encouragement.

Hello, I was wondering, for a scrupulous person, would saying 'I committed sins against the sixth commandment' be acceptable in confession instead of having to go into details?

Mark - AFCatholic said he was going to contact the mods (or whoever else on this website who could help). I don't remember exactly who he said he was going to contact.

randybako - Thank you so much for telling us about those books! I read 'Brain Lock' over 20 years ago and i still remember it! It's a very good book! I haven't heard of "When in Doubt MAKE BELIEF"! It sounds wonderful and fresh and freeing ideas on ways to look at your thoughts! I'm going to check that book out now! Thank you so much for sharing!!

hi everyone, I was thinking about how I can help people here at this site. Two books come to mind. Brain Lock and a book by Jeff Bell titled, "When in Doubt MAKE BELIEF". The second book is a GREAT companion to Brain Lock. Like a lot of us, Jeff Bell wasted years of his life fighting something that he new little about.
He brings up a term that he calls " the commom good" its a great weapon when OCD is kicking our behinds. Many times when we are seriously ruminating (obsessing) we tend to be self centered etc. But if we think about the "commom god" as Bell calls it then we think about others and it helps us to beat the rumination. Exp- I teach school, if i get hung up over a thought, i now must weight that thought against my whole community etc. When you insert the common good then it really adds another dimension.

Hey Gods Holy Will, AFCatholic could contact the mods and they might be able to give him a hand. I know he has been very busy! I can't beleive we have hit 3000 either! It has been great though, a lot of good advice here.

Guess what guys & gals!!! It looks like we just reached 3000 posts today!!! Yeah group!!! Thank you AFCatholic, for creating this great group! Praise the Lord!!! Amen!!!
P.S. I talked to AFCatholic, and he would very much like to make this an open group, but when he tries the website doesn't let him change it from 'moderated'.

    Mark - Yeah!

Hi friends! Here is something I find VERY comforting!!!

St. Teresa of Avila said "With regard to the fear about whether or not I was in the state of grace, He(Jesus) told me, "Daughter, light is very different from darkness. I am faithful. Nobody will be lost unknowingly.""

sheilakathy - Praying with Holy Mass online(since I can't go in person) and making a Spiritual Communion with Jesus, I know I am in communion with Him so I think it's awesome too!!! I'm glad you feel so much better!!! Have a blessed day! "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad!"
