OCD/Scrupulosity Group

Group created by AFCatholic

This group is for those who suffer from a religious form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). From the Scrupulous Anonymous website "Older people may be troubled about past sins, others agonize about problems of obedience and purity, and many worry about sin where there is no sin. Their fear and anxiety prevent them from making decisions lest they be wrong ones." This forum is for discussion and encouragement.

Hey Samson! A Happy Fathers Day to you! That is a very special card your son made, sounds like it is straight from the Heart. I got a good laugh about him using his new socks! LOL Tomorrow, Mom I don't have any socks! LOL Glad your wife signed it also, There is always hope.

That is very interesting about the voice you heard. That might be some encouragement to hold on and all of Heaven will wear her down until she sees what she is doing and changes. I have been there also where God lets me try things my way and when I mind up in a ditch, he comes along and fixes me all up and then I let him try it his way. LOL I have learned the hard way that God will never steer you wrong.

Sounds good on the coffee maker also, I love my coffee! I gave up coffee for Lent so it was wonderful to get back to a cup. I bought some Seattle's best level 5. It said dark and bold! Figured the perfect to pack six weeks of no coffee into a day!

    Take Care and God Bless!

Mark, I mentioned that my son (9), one of the twins, made me a card. He wrote "Dad, we love you just the way you are, you are the coolest dad ever..." he is such a sensitive boy and really made my day. .

Gods Holy Will, I ran across the need to relocate a paper I read a few years ago about some of the things I had a hard time discerning. Padre approved of the author and sound text for my reading. It is a really good paper.

Thank you Gene for your insight on this. My dad wasn't a practising baptist and supported the Church, we went to Mass most Sundays and my mom taught CCD from home...we even had a sister living with us for a short time. When I was a toddler, the brothers (Friars of the Atonement) out of Graymoore , NY used to watch me. They all had a house down the street, aross from the church. back in the seventies, liturical abuse was pretty bad and my mom was a catholic out of south Boston, Mass. She was pretty vatican 1 and taught by the sisters in catholic schools, so when the mass nbecame like the "clown mass" you hear about sometimes, she didn't go back to church and we stopped going. My dad was a local buisness owner and donated the baptismal font and the chalices to the church. Even when I was grown and working for him in his print shop, he donated paper to some convent in DC and let a group out of Liberia use his shop to pack clothes to send back on Sundays. He never told anyone about it and I only found out when I went by the shop to get something one Sunday and there were all these people in the shop. I was like...who the hell are you all and in broken english, they explained. My dad didn't go to church, but lived the gospel, quietly. The reading we picked at his funeral was on the good Samaritan and everyone agreed it was fitting. The ol boy use's his resembalence sometime in dreams, but I can tell it is not my dad by how he acts. I often dream of people I know who have passed away and sometimes it is really the enemy in disguise, so I usually "test the spirit". My dreams are quite lucid at times and can start even before I go in to deep sleep. My wife said she doesn't know how I can be awake one second and talking in my sleep the next, sometimes singing the chaplet if the dream turns south...I was awaking this morning at 5am to the sound of a voice in the house, clear as day, in the hall outside my door. It said, "we will tire her out" and I jumped up to check the house and kids. Went outside and checked out the yard as there have been breakins local since the summer break has started. Everyone was asleep, even the dogs were out cold. This was diffinetly an external voice I heard.

My son got me a new Mr. coffee maker for fathers day today and my youngest made me a card and a airplane made out of his new socks and tape..lol He cut all his socks up to make it. My wife did sign the card though. She left for work at 9 today, not saying much. I appreciate all the prayers from you all. For every one thing I tell you, there a five I dont', but I'm pretty sure the fight is back on, KWIM. Samson

    Samson,

I’m glad that Ritchie was there for you when your dad and mom passed away. I’m sure he saw his share of sorrow working as a paramedic and that helped him in his ministry. It’s amazing how the Lord sends people into our life when and where we need them. I consider that little miracles of everyday life.

I can understand why the need to attend weekly Mass is difficult for you. So much of who we are is shaped in the early years of our life. The conflicting ideas between the two religions must be so difficult to grasp as a child. I was lucky in that I was born and raised Catholic. Weekly Mass was just a given. The best explanation I can give for weekly Mass is the Third Commandment given to us by God and handed down through the generations. In going to Mass, we proclaim our faith and receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus, Himself, said, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.” (John 6:54-57) The third commandment plus Jesus’ words are rationale for me, but I’m probably the least knowledgeable in this group. I tend to see things clinically and not religiously when it come to answering most questions here.

I have to admit that I do not attend Sunday Mass. I have harming fears and my checking rituals became overwhelming. I pretty much was the last one to leave and stayed until the lights went out and I could not see anymore. I understand that you live far from church and that you sometimes have difficulty with transportation. I’m sure you have talked to Padre about that. I know that missing Mass is at times ok. I just don’t know all of the reasons off hand.

Catholics are taught that Sunday Mass is a requirement and it is reinforced over and over again. Therefore, my best guess is that we are held more accountable than people of other religions that don’t necessarily share our beliefs. If you type in “Can non-Catholics be saved?” on the search bar in Catholic Answers, several links pop up. I hope this puts you at ease about your father.

I hope that you have a nice Sunday and great week ahead! Stay positive. Let us know how you are doing when you can.

    God’s Holy Will,

Hope you’re having a great time. Glad you were able to pop in and say “hi”.

    God’s Blessings to All!

Hey Samson, glad to hear that you are having some peace at home today. I lit a candle tonight for you and your wife. I have asked Jesus to intervene in your marriage and help the two of you to grow closer again and to bring a spirit of peace and cooperation to your marriage. God Bless!

Samson - I think God trusts you like Job. God knew that even if He allowed great sufferings to come upon Job, that Job would not leave Him! And he was rewarded for his faith! keep up the good fight soldier of Christ! There is a wonderful website i love called 'Mystics of the Church'. Today I found a great page on how to get rid of evil spirits. Here's the link: http://www.mysticsofthechurch.com/20...ts-demons.html
