OCD/Scrupulosity Group

Group created by AFCatholic

This group is for those who suffer from a religious form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). From the Scrupulous Anonymous website "Older people may be troubled about past sins, others agonize about problems of obedience and purity, and many worry about sin where there is no sin. Their fear and anxiety prevent them from making decisions lest they be wrong ones." This forum is for discussion and encouragement.

Thanks so much for your support and prayers, Mustang. I do hope I pull out of this. Honestly, I would prefer intense scruples to feeling like I don't care about anything.
I will try to stay close to the Crucified Christ. I feel like I don't comprehend His Passion, His sacrifice - I don't feel anything but apathy when I look at a crucifix. Right now I just need to want to desire Christ - I can't even really try to desire Him.

Hello timeandeternity! I am very sorry to hear how you are feeling. You will be in my prayers. Just because you can not feel Christ's presence, does not mean he is not right there with you. He is! Our feelings can play all kinds of tricks on us.

It sounds like you are going through a terribly difficult time and this is the time to cling to the Cross all the more. Stay close to Jesus, we all have our periods of dryness. Keep praying, even if you don't feel like, keep praying. In time you will pull out of this.

I would suggest that you make a appointment with your Priest and talk to him about your struggles. I understand about lashing out at people or just not caring. You sound like your are just worn down and burned out. Scruples and OCD will do that to you.

Please feel free to PM me if you need to talk. God Bless you and I will be praying for you!

    Hi all,
I've struggled with scruples for over 3 years now. Right now, I've just stopped caring about anything. I don't care about myself, about Christ, about my younger brothers and sisters, I get incredibly angry and lash out at people. I've stopped trying to really fight the scruples or live a holy life. I just go to confession once a week out of habit, say my prayers each day out of habit, do everything I'm supposed to do. When scruples come up, I just write them down in my journal and push them to the back of my mind. But I still know they're there, and if I were to really try to have a deep spiritual life, I know they'd thrust their way out. I've just become apathetic. I either care so much that I kill myself over everything, or I just don't care at all - there's no middle ground. I feel like I don't know who Christ is anymore - I haven't felt his presence for months and months, with only a few exceptions.
I feel like I'm living in a way that resembles stumbling through a pitch-black labyrinth filled with thumbtacks. I just don't know where to go or what to do. I would greatly appreciate any prayers you can send my way. Thanks everyone.

Please prayers for me as I am discerning the religious life.

please pray that I may find a good spiritual director that may guide me through my ocd scrupulosity, and that may help me with my decision of discerning the priesthood.

Hello Heaven2001! You have my prayers. You are not evil, you are made in the image of God! Everyone gets intrusive thoughts, it is just us with OCD tend to get a lot of them. If a thought just pops up in your mind, just let it go. It is simply a intrusive thought.

    Hello to all.
I'm in need of you prayers as yesterday I felt like I denied the Lord as I set an alarm at 3 o'clock to prayer as the alarm went off and I was in hospital with my son and family and other patients I found my self say it was an alarm for my son medicine. After this began praying, as I felt like I reject the lord. Always I began praying the station of the cross, but could'nt shake away thought . I began have other thoughts of doing thing unimaginable with the cross. Then this morning I woke up and began asking the Lord for forgiveness but I just kept hearing myself rejecting the Lord and say I don't want to pray. I feel like im one person with two brains one that know there thoughts I don't want and r wrong and the other side believes im evil and I doing this to myself.

    Please help me please

I would not know if it is a mortal sin.

I know how you feel though. A lot of times I feel like doing that a lot as I blame the evil that has been in my life including that of the devil.

The best thing to do however is not to frustrate about the wrongs that you have done in your life, but rather to focus in God's mercy.
