Yes, it is the same Roger Cardinal Mahoney. He has now retired as the Archbishop of Los Angeles effective February 28, 2011. Archbishop Jose Gomez is the new archbishop of Los Angeles.

Here is a link to the story in the Los Angeles Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/feb...ition-20110228

    Hi Snowpea,
Thank You for the welcome, you're very kind and I appreciate it.
I don't have a particular thought or thing to report or share on about Mother Angelica. I just can't wait to get Raymond Arroyo's book. I'm sure once I pick it up I won't want to put it down unless I must. I enjoy BIO's. The last I read was Mother Teresa, an authorized biography by Kathryn Spink. Great and Inspirational reading.
I would like to know more about a healing that Mother experienced on air? If someone would give me a what and where, I'd appreciate it. EWTN is such a good resource, lately I've been watching Fr. Leo Clifford's "Reflections" every day if I can. Today I heard that Saint Bernard was the one who penned The Memorare. I'd like to find out about that too. It is one of my favorite (if that is an appropriate adjective to use) formal prayers.
Once again Thank You to all who have welcomed me to this site!!!
    Glory Be, M.R.

I have been reading the book Raymond Arroyo wrote about her life. She is a really a trailblazer of her time. For a Catholic nun to go into the deep south in the '60s and direct the construction of a monastery from the ground up with high school level blueprint-reading skills, with the material help of Protestants, Catholics, and Jews is a marvel. She placed all her trust in God, and what is the result? A global Catholic network that has led countless people to convert and countless lukewarm Catholics to becoming strong faithful ones.

My first encounter of seeing Mother Angelica was when she used to visit Jim and Tammy Bakker on their now infamous PTL show. She was one of the many semi-regulars. It was my first taste of Catholicsm. I was never comfortable or had any knowledge of the RCC until then. Now many years later I am a convert of 7 years.

I would like to say hello to you all. I don't know if everyone here is a fan of Mothers. I happen to be. I have been for a long time. I can't believe this is the only group of hers that ever existed but in any case I would like to thank you for your insight, snowpea. I'm extremely fond of the woman and her gentle firmness for quite a few years. I used to watch Joy of Painting just before I would watch EWTN. It was really quite soothing. I could watch her for hours and did. Anyway, I'm sure I'll enjoy catching up on her repeats and would also pray for Mother Angelica's soul. Thanks again snowpea I hope to contribute. I thought maybe her update from the EWTN site would be nice. I hope someone enjoys it.
MOTHER ANGELICA'S HEALTH UPDATE FROM EWTN 1/26/10
Thank you for your continued prayers for Mother Angelica. Her health remains stable, and she is as plucky as ever. It's a real joy to visit Mother in her room, because inspiration is the gift she liberally hands out! Not with her down-to-earth wisdom communicated by words (which we all loved and miss), but through another medium – example. The welcome smile of our Mother beckons each of us close to her bedside where she instantly has you entangled in her strong grasp. Just try to get free! Every great teacher closes their lessons with a thought to ponder, a word of wisdom for the day. Mother's unspoken word of 'acceptance' is continually given to all who visit her.

What a great pioneer Mother Angelica is!
She is a big inspiration. Remember to not put any flowers when describing her, because she'll wish us 40 years in Purgatory. jk
God bless her and all the nuns in the world.

Oh, BTW, I have been to mass there in the church that they show on EWTN.
Late husband & I were traveling in a 35' motorhome & we parked it right in front & went in & went to mass. After a young woman gave us a tour of where they taped. And we saw some of the sets.
This was in about 94 or so.
    We didn't see Mother.

    Love EWTN & Mother Angelica.
By watching EWTN I have come back to my faith.
I think Mother will be raised to Sainthood. I love her.
