CLIMATE CHANGE - Our faith calls us to action!

Visit the forum of this group.
Group created by 4elise

This is a group for those who accept that there is a correlation between our actions and changes in the global climate, not to debate the science.

Recognizing that this is a very controversial issue, many Catholics are working together to take steps to reduce our impact on God's most precious gift of creation.

** Here we can share actions we are taking personally and in our communities to mitigate this impact.
** Here we can post information and resources that we can share with others to increase awareness

    FROM THE VATICAN

VATICAN ISSUES MAJOR REPORT ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Last Thursday, May 5, a working group of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, one of the oldest scientific institutes in the world, issued a sobering report on the impacts for humankind as a result of the global retreat of mountain glaciers as a result of human activity leading to climate change.

In an interview with Coalition director Dan Misleh this week, Working Group co-chair, Veerabhadran Ramanathan (Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego and a member of the Pontifical Academy since 2004) said that it is vitally important that members of the faith community take the information about climate change from scientists like himself and use it to not only better understand climate change but to renew their commitment to care for Creation and those most impacted by climate change.*

Dr. Ramanathan also offered some insights into the workings of the Pontifical Academy of Science noting that it is perhaps the most prestigious academy of science in the world and one in which prominent scientists both serve and strongly wish to serve.*

An audio recording and a transcript of the interview will be posted soon on the Catholic Climate Covenant website.* In the meantime, here is a SUMMARY of the report.** Read the story from Catholic News Service about the Working Group Report.

http://www.alternet.org/story/74605/?page=entire -- Here is a connection many (including me) have made - about climate change and our diet - it certainly feels like the every day choice I can make personally that can make a big difference.

Anyone have anything that they would like to reflect on related to how this season of Advent - a time of preparing for Christ to come into our lives - gives us ways to awaken to ways we can care for creation?
