So hard to decide! I think I like the movie the Fellowship of the Ring the best, because I like the Shire and that movie has the most Shire scenes in it. For the books, I think probably the Return of the King.

Mine is what Haldor laments when he has to blindfold the fellowship before bringing them deeper into Lorien. I use it in my signature:

Cannot wait for the Hobbit movie! Anyone have any concerns? I hope it's more true to the books, myself. I love the LOTR movies, but there are a few things especially in Two Towers and Return of the King that were not up to snuff, imho.

Hey everyone, if you get the time check out a video series I made for youtube. It is an approx. 45 min. lecture by Dr. Peter Kreeft on the problem of evil as addressed in Tolkien's masterpiece The Lord of the Rings...(NOTE THE SERIES DOES CONTAIN A FEW (4-5) GRAPHIC IMAGES AND VIEWER DISCRESSION IS ADVISED!!!) If you do check it out, also feel free to browse some of my other youtube uploads! God bless!

Glad to have you here, Tonaw! No wonder I love Lord of the Rings so much! I've always had this connection with God when I watch the movies and read the books. Thanks for the websites!

    Hey! Nice Group! ^_^
Well I'm sure you guys realize the link between the Elven Lembas bread and the Eucharist. The Elven bread sustains the Adventurers on the Journey and fills them completely as the journey to fight evil. There are several websites that talk about this.

Here's some quotes from the Author, J.R.R. Tolkien, in speaking with people (not in a novel)-

"Out of darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament.... There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves upon earth, and more than that"[Letters p.53-54]

" But I fell in love with the Blessed Sacrament from the beginning - and by the Mercy of God have never fallen out again... " [Letters p.340]
    ...
" Seven times a week is more nourishing than seven times at intervals. " [Letters p.338]. -J.R.R. Tolkien

There are many websites out there to learn more about the connection of Tolkien's books and faith. Here's just a couple for starters that I'm sure you recognize. The first being from EWTN.

Just to answer the question posed by JA25 a while ago:

I was introduced to Tolkien by way of PJ's film, but I've gotta say I love the books more, the nitpicker that I am.

If I'm gonna rate all the LotR adaptations I've seen or listened however:

    (1) BBC Radio Adaptation
    (2) PJ's FotR (Extended)
    (3) Rankin-Bass' RotK
    (4) PJ's TTT (Extended)
    (5) PJ's FotR (Theatrical)
    (6) Ralph Bakshi's 1978 adaptation
    (7) PJ's RotK (Theatrical)
    (8) PJ's TTT (Theatrical)

Okay, guys, I've got a question for you.
Who's your favorite character from LOTR?

It was too bad that Tom Bombadil wasn't in the first movie. I love Tom!
