Novena Prayer to St. Kateri Tekakwitha
    "Lily of Mohawks"

Kateri, favored child and Lily of the Mohawks, I come to seek your intecession in my present need: (mention it)
I admire the virtues which adorned your soul: love of God and neighbor, humility, obedience, patience, purity and the spirit of sacrifice. Help me to imitate your example in my state of life. Through the goodness and mercy of God, Who has blessed you with so many graces which led you to the the true faith and to a high degree of holiness, pray to God for me and help me.
Obtain for me a very fervent devotion to the the Holy Eucharist so that I may love Holy Mass as you did and receive Holy Communion as often as I can. Teach me also to be devoted to my crucified Savior as you were, that I may cheerfully bear my daily crosses for love Him Who suffered so much for love of me. Most of all I beg you to pray for me that I may avoid sin, lead a holy life and save my soul. - copied from a Holy Card by J.B. CO

    Portrait of Kateri Tekakwitha
Hello. I'm an author trying to confirm the existence of a portrait (from the imagination, of course) of Kateri Tekakwitha that survived the crash of Mohawk Airlines flight 502 in Albany, NY on March 3, 1972. I read such an account on the Internet 6 or 7 years ago but have but unable to find that reference or any other since. When I was in the area three years ago, I stopped at the Kateri shrine on the north side of the Mohawk just east of Fonda and saw a portrait in the log cabin church that could have been the painting, but I could find no one on the site that day. I have not had the time to go back and stop at the Auriesville shrine on the south side of the river, but from what I remember reading I think the portrait might be at the shrine on the north side of the river.

I am fairly familiar with the crash details, but did not know the portrait' was on board. There were quite a number of people killed in the crash, but also quite a few miracles, and the writer of the piece I read on the internet felt the survival of the portrait was itself a miracle. I would tend to agree because of the location of the baggage compartment on that particular aircraft (Fairchild 227.) Thanks for any information.

I'm so glad Kateri is finally going to be canonized. I've loved her for such a long time. She has indeed become one of my favorite Blesseds. Now she'll continue to be one of my favorite Saints and also namesakes as well.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow! Our dear Blessed Kateri is to be raised to her place on the altar among all the other saints of God on October 21 of this year, along with others whose causes have been approved by the Vatican.

I am Seneca Nation, Bear clan (Haudenossaune, or Iroquois,) and consider Bl. Kateri as one of my relations. May this pure Little Flower of the New World bring our indigenous people to true fellowship with the Lord!

Say eight Paters, eight Aves, eight Glorias, and conclude with soon-to-be SAINT Kateri's final words: "Jeosos, konorowanka," (Jesus, I love you,) as her chaplet recommends, in thanksgiving!

I really like what you are saying about Kateri...she is part Algonquin (which I am too) and Mohawk...so I feel very special about this lady.

I want to invite you to participate in the two groups that I have happening (1) creating an aboriginal catholicism and (2) Birthing An Aboriginal Cosmic Mass...as I feel very strongly that we need to do work as aboriginal people in articulating our faith from the perspective of our traditional religion or spirituality and our experience, love and commitment to our adopted Catholic family ...

I think the best honour that we can give Kateri is to be strong Aboriginal Catholics in our own time, place and space...

    Thoughts?

Here's a quote I found recently: Kateri said: “I am not my own; I have given myself to Jesus. He must be my only love. The state of helpless poverty that may befall me if I do not marry does not frighten me. All I need is a little food and a few pieces of clothing. With the work of my hands I shall always earn what is necessary and what is left over I’ll give to my relatives and to the poor. If I should become sick and unable to work, then I shall be like the Lord on the cross. He will have mercy on me and help me, I am sure.”

Hello all...I am an Algonquin from southwestern Quebec (although I have been born and raised on Canada's west coast)...Kateri is from the same people as I and as such have a certain liking for her. I look forward to hearing and learning from your thoughts...but I also want to use this forum with other Native American or Aboriginal Canadians to reflect on what it means to be both Aboriginal and Catholic and how our cutlures, native spirituality and the teachings of the church are reconcilable to a great degree.

I've had a particular love for Kateri ever since I first discovered her. I like to consider that she's one of my patron saints. I'm also glad to hear that she may truely be cannonized very soon!!! May she continue to inspire all of us now and always.

This was taken from a magazine entitled "Kateri, Lily of the Mohawk" (after Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha).

The 23rd Psalm, An Indian Translation

The Great Father above is a Shepherd Chief, and I am his, and with Him I want not.

He throws out to me a rope, and the name of the rope is Love.

He draws me, and He draws me and He draws me to where the grass is green and the water is not dangerous.

And I eat and lie down satisfied. Sometimes my heart is very weak and falls down, but He lifts it up again, and draws me into a good road. His name is Wonderful.

Sometimes, it may be very soon, it may be longer. It may be a long, long time that He will draw me into a place between mountains.

It is dark there, but I will not draw back; I will not be afraid. For it is in there between these mountains that the Shepherd will meet me. And the hunger I have felt in my heart all through this life will be satisfied.

Sometimes He makes the Love rope into a whip, but afterwards He gives me a staff that I may lean on. He spreads a table before me with all kinds of food. He puts His hand upon my head and all "tired" is gone.

My cup He fills until it runs over. What I tell you is true. I lie not. These roads that are a way ahead will stay with me through life and afterwards I will go to live in the Big Teepee, and sit down with the Shepherd Chief forever.

"Let peace encircle the world. Let men walk hand in hand, a living bond of brotherhood, a voice from land to land."
Everyone have a very blessed & wonderful evening!

    Blessings,
    Kim
