    Hi Columba Tom,

Thank you for the information. The work of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre is excellent and I fully support their endeavours in the Holy Land but I have always been drawn to the SMOM for their health care activities around the world. I’m a health professional (nearly at any rate) so the Order of Malta appeals to me in that regard.

They have a large ambulance service here in Ireland but I think I would rather get involved with some of their other charitable endeavours. Their Irish website is pretty sparse on information about their other activities in Ireland so I have been unable to find out much about their non-ambulance projects and services.

Are you familiar with some of their other projects here in Ireland?

    Hi Columba84,

The Order of Malta in Ireland is a huge outfit in a small country, being a Catholic country. They have the ambulance service. I see them on pilgrimages overseas. If you want practical charitable works and a social religious life, join the Irish Association, or one of their charities. As an international charity, SMOM has actions all over the world.

I see from their website that the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre work for the preservation of Christianity in the Holy Land. I don't know more about them. SMOM also has operations in the Holy Land of course, such as the Maternity Hospital in Bethlehem.

To give you some idea of the scope of the Order of Malta, when I was in Lebanon for them in 1982 (with the Irish Association as it happens), every single charity had pulled out, except SMOM. Save the Children, the Red Cross, the whole lot, all fled.

Do be careful, whatever you join, that it is the genuine article. These two organisations are Orders of the Roman Catholic Church. There are numerous pretend Orders, some quite flamboyant!

For the real SMOM, see here: http://www.orderofmalta.int/?lang=en

    Best wishes.

    Hi all,

I’ve been interested in SMOM for some time and I would like more information on the Order in Ireland. I’ve been asked to join the Order of the Holy Sepulchre but I’ve always been drawn to SMOM and I was wondering how I might go about getting in touch with members of the Order here in Ireland.

I would appreciate some information by PM or email (you can contact me via my profile, I think).

    Thanks in advance.

Friends and one son go to Lourdes today from various countries.
Maybe I too will get there next year.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful, and kindle in them the fire of thy love!
Our Lady of Lourdes, Pray for us!

    Hello SMOM,
You followed my quip about Freemasons with another, so we stumbled upon each other. I am in the UK association. But not a very regular Catholic Answers visitor. I meet US members (of SMOM) in the UK occasionally, and in Lourdes in May, though I won't be there this year.
    Have a fruitful Lent.

Hello! My name is Eric, I am a veteran, historian, recent Catholic (and loving it), and have done a lot of research on the history of the order for college. I am very interested in finding out more on how to give/volunteer/support the USA chapter, with the ultimate goal of knighthood. What Catholic and Historian could pass up a chance to deepen his faith and become a part of something greater than himself!? Any assistance or points of contact in the Texas area would be very appreciated!

    Hi all

I'm a Companion of the British Association of the Order of Malta, and am honoured to be part of their mission. I look forward to hearing more from members of this group.
