Our Eucharistic Journey

Group created by Amiciel

This group is for those who wish to become better acquainted with the Lord Jesus or who wish to gain / share practical insights on the Holy Eucharist.

Here, we can talk about Jesus and His values, carry on conversations about Him, follow th liturgical life by sharing thoughts from the Sunday and daily Masses. We can evangelize one another by sharing insights on the parts of the Mass, sharing thoughts from our adoration hours, from our readings, prayers, meditations, etc.

I know someone whose "Eucharistic Journey" was triggered unexpectedly by a statement from a priest/theologian/professor who said something to this effect:

Each Eucharist should be a true encounter with the Lord Jesus as our Friend. If our Eucharists are living encounters with Jesus as a Friend, then, what great joy will be ours as we enter eternity, and we realize that our Divine Judge is the same merciful Jesus we have encountered so many times in the Eucharist, as a dear Friend and Redeemer.

Each Eucharistic Celebration is therefore an excellent 'preparation time' for eternity. It is a necessary part of our Catholic life; it is not optional.

Our Journey is for beginners hoping to gain more insights on the Lord and His gift of the Eucharist. It is also for those already advanced in their spiritual journey, who, we hope, will share their precious insights with us. Together then, let us hope to deepen our relationship with the Lord and bring others along with us.

Come Holy Spirit, enlighten and guide our group in our search for Truth. Help us to remain on solid ground as we travel home towards eternity.

Mary, loving Mother of Jesus and our dear Mother, be with us as we go our way. Amen.

Thank you, Amiciel, for starting this forum. I am taking a class on our Eucharistic journey--actually once a month until next June-and hope to be able to contribute to the group.

The most awe inspiring part of the Mass for me is the consecration of the bread and wine. When you know the priest is acting in persona Christi and he is so close to God and Jesus. He offers in the Holy Spirit the Victim to the Father. Can we ever attain that closeness? I sometimes think about our Lord on Calvary and the suffering He went through before I receive, but I receive Him in the glory of his resurrection and Ascension. We are truly blessed in this sacrament, if only non-Catholics knew what we already know.

As soon as we have 10 members you may start a forum.

Thought # 3: Preface 40 (Eucharistic Prayer) reminds us that our ability to praise God is itself His gift to us:

This is so true, we only come to God because he draws us to himself. We recieve the gift of grace, and the Holy spirit helps to give us the desire to praise him. The more we are imerse in the Holy Spirit, the charism or gifts of the Spirit are given to us, to build up the body of the church.

GC, thanks for your comment. Thought #2 has many implications. I'm thinking of starting a conversation thread so that we can see the continuity of our thoughts; Unfortunately, we cannot yet have our own forum and I am not exactly a computer literate person. As soon as I figure out how to start a thread with a link to our Wall Message so that it can be accessed by a simple click, we can start our conversation. Perhaps, you know how to do it? Would be happy if you can help me out.

In the meantime, it seems to me that your making sure that you come on time for Holy Mass already implies some kind of preparation.

A warm welcome, beth40n2! Am truly happy you have joined us.

You are so right that the Eucharist is the "source and summit" of our faith. I did not quite grasp the significance of this statement until a few years ago when I decided to take some courses in Theology and I zeroed in on the Eucharist. Since then, each Eucharistic Celebration has been for me a truly meaningful experience.

I'd like to hope that others too will come to find our Eucharistic Celebrations more meaningful.

    Again, welcome!

Hello, I would love to join this group. As a convert of almost 6 years now, I am continuely learning about our Lord Jesus, who is truely present in the Eucharist. I have come to understand that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. May the Holy Spirit continue to reveal to everyone the graces and blessings the Eucharist gives.

Thank you for the welcome, Amiciel.

I have been thinking about Thought #2. When I go to Mass, I don't do any special preparation except I make sure I come on time for Mass. Coming late seems to me to be disrespectful.

Welcome grateful_child. In some ways, we are all beginners and will be learning from one another.

In the course of our conversations, we'll be looking at different parts of the Mass, and as far as we are able to, will connect it to the New Testament and the Old Testament. The OT does provide very interesting background that will help us to appreciate better the Holy Mass. Again, a warm welcome!

Thought # 3: Preface 40 (Eucharistic Prayer) reminds us that our ability to praise God is itself His gift to us:

"Father, all powerful and ever-living God,
we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks.
You have no need of our praise,
yet our desire to thank you is itself your gift.
Our prayer of thanksgiving adds nothing to your greatness,
but makes us grow in your grace,
through Jesus Christ our Lord ..."

(Do I realize that, of myself, I do not have the ability to truly praise God, nor to do good, without God's grace? Share your thoughts?)

Thought # 2: The need to prepare ourselves for our Eucharistic Celebration.

In Holy Communion, we receive the very Person of the Lord Jesus. This is the most precious gift one can have in the whole world. He comes with unlimited graces, ready to give them to us for ourselves and for those He wishes to reach through us.

The problem is, we often place a limit on our capacity to receive these graces. What we are able to receive depends on our disposition; and our disposition depends on our preparation for meeting the Lord.

(How prepared am I when I participate in the Eucharistic Celebration? What means do I find effective in preparing myself to meet the Lord? Share with us?)
