Time Management Team and Clutterbugs' Corner

Group created by 3DOCTORS

For anyone who struggles with managing time and curbing the clutter in their life. Share what has worked for you and what you would like suggestions from others about. We're individuals so not every system will work for every person, but swapping ideas will enrich our efforts.

Also, you may vent if you're having a bad time or clutter day! ;)

This group is also intended as a companion group to my other group Catholics Overcoming Materialism, which is for hoarders, compulsive shoppers, debtors, etc. so you may want to check that out also.

Some people say "Cleanliness is next to Godliness." Well, whether that's true or not, I think we can benefit from making our homes nice places we can enjoy and relax, whether by ourselves or with family and friends.

But for some of us this comes more easily than it does for others. This is a place for those whose homes are a "work in progress" :)

As for Time Management - our time here on Earth is short and we want to use it to glorify God. And being stressed out, overbooked, procrastinating, etc. are hindrances and not good for our health either. So this is also a place to evaluate and sanctify our use of our time each day.

OK Sailor Kenshin, you can be here but no razzing those of us who *don't* enjoy spring (or summer, or fall, or winter!) cleaning!

Well... I'm in. Thanks, 3doctors! I won't mention the fact that I actually enjoy spring cleaning and just took a carton of clothes to our local parish.

Hi, just joined, thanks 3DOCTORS for forming this group! I used to be a Born Organized and still sometimes can fool others into thinking I am, but I would say I am very ADD when it comes to cleaning and now I make piles of papers that need sorting/storing/discarding, because each one needs some kind of decision and it exhausts me just having to think about it! I know I have too much STUFF - my problem is the "what ifs?" What if I need it? What if I can't find it again? What if someone ELSE needs it? and on and on. Also my energy level hasn't been the same since my thyroid konked out on me 16 years ago. I take supplements but it's never been the same. Well enough excuses, time to go and declutter some more!

    Hi Ichthus7,

It sounds like your energy level being low is part of the problem, and that's common with us who struggle with this. Working the shift you do is a challenge. I would suggest getting a checkup with your doctor and looking into some exercise and nutritional things you can do. Also assess whether your sleep patterns are getting you really restful sleep so that when you're awake you feel like you have enough "get up and go" to work on your cleaning projects.

A simple thing a lot of people forget is to maintain the body's hydration. When we feel thirsty we are already dehydrated, and when we're dehydrated we feel sluggish. I know I feel better when I consciously attempt to drink plenty of liquids.

    Hope this helps!

I know I would be a better worker and a better housekeeper if only I could get organized. I work 5 to 130 a.m. m-f and have saturday and sundays off. I ride home with a friend who gets off between 245 and 500am, It seems like the time I am not working I am sleeping. I know a lot of people who work this shift and don't have problems with it. Maybe i am just getting old. My mom was always immaculate till the day her heart failed and she died. She would help my dad chase cows and feed, she was active in church ministry and our old farmhouse was always fresh and clean. My sister in law is another person who has a huge house that is always immaculate. I work with people that keep everything organized in files and are efficient and of course productive. Sometimes my lack of organization gets me dangerously close to being fired. HELP

Hi there fellow TMT&CC's! How's everyone doing? houseofsaul I can understand about how years can go by with feeling overloaded and overwhelmed. Been there!

Going to get up early in the morning and tackle my storage unit (I recently moved, and toward the end it was just chucking stuff in as fast as possible so I could clear out the former apartment).

Hoping yet again that not only will I get the stuff worth keeping stacked neatly, but find some more things that I don't need to keep and can pass on to someone who can use them!

Viki43..I can totally relate....seems the last 5-6 years I have been in a rut...it all happened at once. I got sick, thought I would never bounce back. While my illness is under control the get up and go got up and went and never came back. Its like the drive, initiative to do more than exactly what needs to be done just isn't there.

My neighbor just recently remarried and his new wife and I have decided to go for a walk 2-3 times a week after dinner. Because I dont like to walk alone and I need someone to hold me accountable. Hopefully the walk will engergize me enough to want to do those mundane things around the house again and rediscover my drive for life. Hang in there. God bless.

Hi Viki63, I know what you mean, though I am no longer in the workforce. It really is hard to do it all and I don't have any easy answers. If you like structure, you might try FlyLady

Let's keep this group going - I really feel bad that someone in need didn't get an answer. I used to be better about keeping up the groups I'd started, but sometimes a lot of people are more into the Forums and they never make it over here. Maybe I'll post something on the Forums about that very thing!

Back to your fatigue - maybe some way of carving out a time to regroup and refresh - do you belong to a gym, maybe where you could take a quick dip in the pool - not a hard, fatiguing workout, but a relaxing swim, and a quick shower and feel like making a fresh start to the evening? This is just off the top of my head, so if it doesn't sound like a workable idea, maybe someone else has something better to offer. Anyway, wishing you the best!

    Hello,
does anyone have the problem of getting home from work and just not feeling like dealing with housework, cleaning & cooking? So it piles up until the weekend, then I feel bad if I don't spend all weekend cleaning up. , ,
