Priesthood Discernment Group

Group created by Seminarian_MJC

This is a group for those considering a vocation to the Catholic priesthood. The goal for this group is for all men interested in a vocation to have an opportunity to chat with one another about the vocation process. Seminarians and priests are encouraged to join the group to support and help those considering a vocation. Sometimes, especially in todays world and culture, the people around us, like our family and friends, are either against our possible vocation, or don't inderstand it... this group is to get people in contact with other people who feel the same calling. A group of support and information.

iProfess I wish you luck with your discernment, and with that order. I will pray that the order works out for you. If that is where God is truly calling you I know it will. Alpprou

    Hello everyone!

I am so glad to be on this discussion forum with other young men discerning God's calling for us in our lives. Obviously for most of us, we feel that God is calling us to discern a vocation to the priesthood. I certainly feel that pull on my heart strings by the Lord himself and plan on starting the application process for seminary soon. However, at times I battle with strong feelings for my natural attraction to women. This, of course, is normal for a young man such as myself who definitely feels attracted to women. Yet there are times when I feel this perfectly healthy attraction for women mixed with temptations of lust.

I guess my question is more directed to those who are in seminary or who might be priests themselves: Is this normal for a man discerning the priesthood? The strong feelings I have for women, aside from the temptations of lust, never produce the calm and peace in my heart that the priesthood does when I think about being a priest. Any advice?

    Thanks...

The Crosier order didnt end up working out for me, but I havent given up. In fact I am in the application process with the Salesians of Don Bosco right now. I hope that this order would work out for me, and that I would be able to get accepted. If this is truly where God is calling me like I think it is, then I know that everything will work out and that I would be accepted.

Gerard It is never a waste of time furthering your education. If you dont mind me asking how much education did they want you to finish first? I am in the process of discerning my vocation with the Crossier Fathers and Brothers, it is going well so far. I am just waiting to make a weekend retreat to the order to truly see if this is where God is calling me. The weekend retreat was supposed to be the weekend of Aug 19, but due to my upcoming shoulder surgery on Aug 15 they will reschedule that for me after I am fully recovered, which would be about 3 months my doctor said.

Welcome Alan(de la Roche.) It is wonderful to have the thoughts of serving the Lord in His vineyard. I am also undergoing discernment, but I was told to finish my education. Sometimes, I feel that i'm wasting my time in education, all i need is to get in there. But it's a gradual process. Be patient enough to listen and take heed. I believe, if it be His Holy Will, you shall achieve it.
God let your will be done.

My name is Alan and I feel i am being called to the priesthood to, and have been discerning my vocation for quite a long time now. I am very fortunate to have all of my famalies, relatives, friends, and my spiritual directors support in my discernment. However I have yet to find out where God is truly calling me.
