Modesty IS Fashionable!

Visit the forum of this group.
Group created by spunjalebi

This is a group for ladies who believe that modesty does not exclude looking tasteful and fashionable in the current time. Nor does it mean that showing collarbones, knees, or elbows is sinful, and it's possible to wear clothes that show those bones without looking like a hussy!

We believe that modesty does not preclude looking lady-like or feminine and does not place shame on a woman's natural figure. By looking fashionable, we emphasize and embrace natural femininity without endorsing burlap-sackery or dowdiness. We also uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church on femininity, and through our modesty demonstrate gracility.

I think plain dress for church is appropriate. I am appauled when you see a sea of blue and orange at Mass on the day of a Bears game. Church shouldn't be the place to promote your favorite sports team.

Here is the scenario: You are in line for communion and the gentleman in-front of you is wearing something OK ish- T and shorts.

He is in his 20s-30s and is a little heavier sent. You are next in line to receive the blessed sacrament so your head is bowed in prayer but you have to have eyes open so you don't trip! Next thing you know your devotional prayer is RUDELY broken when the man bows in front of you as he is about to receive. He is one of those who obviously wears his pants 'fashionably' loose and low and you get to see a 'crack' that you really did not wish too let alone at this very moment! PLEASE men check the length of your shirts to make sure they cover all your parts too...it is not just women who need to do this!!!!

Haha I think the neon is more for the teeny-boppers, but the influx of brighter colors in general is certainly making a headway.

The feathers are probably just considered so much of a distraction that school administrators just don't want to deal with them. I remember back in "my day" there were similar bans on certain fashion items. Like slap bracelets, but then again that was a safety thing because kids were slapping each other, literally

Why on earth would they ban feathers at your school? I'm not quite sure why they would have the right to.
    You mean like this:http://tinyurl.com/4xq8lly
    Or this: http://tinyurl.com/3kbrqfb
correct? I'm sorry, I just don't understand it being banned. I don't see them as immodest or a "sin" to wear. It's a really big trend here in California as well.

Hello all. just had to run out and put horses in out of a hail storm . could not sleep so I thought I would see what is up on CAF since I have not heard much recently from other groups I joined. I like this forum idea. Of course my teenage daughter ( who wants to be a fashion designer) would say that my idea of fashion is frumpy. I say the use of the word " fashion" is relative just as some would say 'modesty' is relative.

    @therese:

I agree that we need to be sensible about these things. I think we also need to be careful about getting too scrupulous when it comes to the details. It's not a sin, or immodest to wear a dress that is tasteful and covers enough of one's body without hosiery. Just as it's not necessarily sinful or immodest to wear a dress that covers up one's body, and shows a bit of shoulder. I have a dress like that, and the hem comes down to the floor while the neckline is a couple inches away from my collarbones.

I just wanted to add that living in the South, the last thing I want is to wear hose. I will wear tights in the winter or if I'm attending something formal I may wear hose, but hose are just plain evil in the humidity here.

For the feathers, they are like woven into your hair to where the hang down, just like regular hair. I got one, its pretty cool, you can like up feather extensions on google.

I am not the least bit worried about immodesty. I think many people are overly concerned with scrupulousity and legalism. Many people have gone on and on about is this wrong etc.. I do not think bare arms or shorter skirts is a sin, if you look nice in them. However, that is just my opinion.

Are you talking about having the feather braided into the hair? I'm not really sure what you mean to be honest...I thought you were just talking about putting a feather that was part of a hairclip in your hair.

I would like to have one. Our school has banned them but I will get one during summer and I am pretty sure it will fall out before school next year, otherwise I'll have it removed. Everyone who gets them usually likes them.
