Lent 2011

Group created by 3DOCTORS

A place to share what you are going to give up for Lent this year or spiritual practices you are going to adopt. How you will overcome sin and prepare to celebrate Our Lord's Resurrection on Easter Sunday! And for sharing along the way how it's going, what you're learning, and what graces God is giving you!

I don't yet know but I will attempt to stop my bad habits. This lent is definitely going to be the toughest for me ever. I can at least attempt to control how often I fall.

I will also try to find a church where they do Stations of the Cross and partake in it as often as I can make it there because they don't do stations in our church.

I get a good dose of that during Advent....DH and I took over coordinating our parish's free Thanksgiving dinners for the poor.

Might look at something on a much smaller scale...although with RCIA and work...free time is filling up fast!

I wish I had time to join into the rosary before Mass...but it's during my lunch hour so it's all I can do to get over there....stay for the Mass...and get back to work on time.

At Mass every noon, we try to say the Rosary before Mass. And we also say the Angelus if there is time. But one of our priests' says it before Mass, which is nice. And, of course, during Lent, we'll say the Regina Coeli instead.

RCIA is special to begin with, Annabelle - congratulations! Maybe praying the Stations of the Cross or the Rosary? I'm sure you'll think of something. Maybe God just wants you to devote time to your RCIA studies in these final weeks!

Mine will be the same as last year....no TV. Going to try and limit the internet as well. I'm in RCIA so I'm sure it will be a special time. I already go to Daily Mass....so I'm not sure about what to add in...........

Internet usage is going to be limited for me for one.

Reading my Bible and Catechism and regular Stations of the Cross will be devotional practices for starters.

Hopefully can add the Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet to that also. And Daily Mass. It sounds like a lot when I list it all out. However, I may be able to start filtering it in ahead of Ash Wednesday.

Limiting my Internet time will certainly provide me with more time in which to figure out how to fit the devotional practices, LOL!

Found this cool little booklet/planning guide for $1 at a Catholic bookstore here:

What Am I Doing for Lent This Year? Second Edition by Paul Turner. Published by Liturgy Training Publications, ISBN 978-1-56854-432-8

It has readings and reflections AND space to jot down one's personal commitments and reflections. It's 30 pages, enough to have some substance but not get bogged down. I think I'll find this helpful. Just thought I'd mention it in case anybody else would like to know about it.
