Everyone, I'm working on a project for another website about Catholicism in the Commonwealth Realms. Not focussing on the Commonwealth as a whole, but rather, the Catholics of the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc...

I need some help, and if anyone would be interested, could you please PM me? Thank you!

As always, Pearly, you are alert to Edmund Campion news! I hadn't even noticed the Jesuit connection with Pope Francis and Edmund Campion.

    Thankyou for reminding us!

Pater Edmundus Campianus, Martyr, ora pro nobis.

    Hi Pearl,

Sorry I missed this post during Holy Week. I've tried to set up email notifications for posts from this group, but it doesn't seem to work.

That's exciting for Wyndysascha! I hope that his reception into the Church went well.

I will say a prayer of thanks.

    Hi, Edmundus!

Sorry for taking forever to get back to you!

So, who do you think really killed the Princes in the Tower? Richard III, Henry VII, or someone else? Or do you think they were never killed at all? I think it's pretty much up in the air, but I think it's fair to say that both Richard and Henry could be brutal when necessary, although I don't think either were mass murderers.

I heard from a friend that they planned on giving Richard III's remains an Anglican funeral and burial.....but that Catholics were putting up a fight and insisting that, since he was a Catholic king, he should have a Catholic funeral and burial! I was thinking that perhaps two funerals, one Anglican and one Catholic, might solve the problem. Do you know what happened?

Also, while we're in the "what-happened-to-such-and-such" mode, does anyone know what happened to the Glastonbury Thorn? It was hacked down by vandals back in 2011 when I first started this group, and it was one of the first topics we discussed! However, we never found out if it was grafted and replanted or what.....does anyone know?

    Blessings,
    Pearl

    Hi, Gang!

First, thank you, withnailand for posting that picture of the Irish Coast! Is that a real picture or a painting? Also, is it a picture of Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland? Please post some more if you get the chance!

As for me and my house , I finally figured out how to post pictures on this site myself!!! So now you can check out the bunch of "super Brits" I put up:

We've got Fr. Edmund Campion, Sir Thomas More, Gen. Thomas Gage, Maj. John Pitcairn, Sir John Moore, Flora MacDonald, Bishop Alexander McDonell, William Wilberforce, Queen Mary I, and King George III. To figure out who's who, go to my album; I've put captions there to help you sort them out!

    God Bless,

As far as I understand, Burma was under British rule until 1948, but it didn't become part of the Commonwealth. My history around that sort of thing is quite sketchy. The country has had a lot of problems with uprisings, military rule, human rights abuses etc in the past but I think they're working it out and moving towards a more democratic state now.

LotR/Pokemon?! That sounds kind of scary! What made you decide to merge those two themes together? Btw, how is the creative writing project going? Also, are you a college student?
Why LotR/Pokémon? Well I read a fanfic where they told Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with pokémon instead, and I decided to do the same thing with LotR. And yes, I am in college

Thanks for the tip! I've never read a whole Chesterton novel - only a few Fr Brown stories and an essay or two. He is a great writer!

    Remains of Richard III found.

This is week-old news I know, but I was just curious whether it received prominent coverage in the US?

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0204094610.htm

It was one of the major news items in Australia last week. I was a little surprised that our MSM expected there to be such an interest in Richard III, but I assume they know their readership.

They mentioned his famous line from Shakespeare "A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse". We learnt that in school.

I had a friend in University who was a Richard III enthusiast and belonged to the Richard III society which is dedicated to rehabilitating his memory, ie. undoing the black legend which mostly comes from the winners of the Wars of the Roses and Shakespeare (allegedly).

    Hi, Shelley11!

I finally did respond to you PMs....sorry it took me such a long stretch to do so!

For everyone involved here: Please pray for the USA. We've just been through an horrendous storm (Hurricane Sandy) and we're on the brink of an historic presidential election. For Catholics, our religious liberty is in the balance. For Americans in general, our way of life is in the balance. Please pray that we may achieve a victory against those who have misleading and manipulating us for the past for years.....

"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father, send now your spirit over the earth. Let the Holy Spirit live in the hearts of all nations that they may be preserved from degeneration, disaster, and war. May the Lady of All Nations, the Blessed Virgin Mary, be our advocate. Amen."

    Welcome, atheistgirl!

I'm the culprit, actually I just noticed you on another thread and figured I'd send you an invite to my little group. Thanks for accepting!

So now that your here, will you tell us a little about yourself? Are you of Native American ancestry? As I mentioned elsewhere, I have some Cherokee blood in me. Do you have any other cultural roots? I'm a mix of Italian, French, Irish, English, Dutch, German, Polish, and, as I said, Cherokee!

Do you have any interest in anything involving British history or culture? If so, what is it? I am pretty much fascinated by the whole shabang. So much depth and complexity involved

    God Bless,

Hi, everybody! This is the month of the feast of St. Margaret Ward, my patroness and the original "Pearl of Tyburn"! For her full story, read the post entitled "The original "Pearl of Tyburn" on my blog: http://www.longbowsandrosarybeads.blogspot.com

Dear St. Margaret, you were a gentle yet strong lady with a keen sense of purpose and holy determination. You succeeded in your mission to rescue a Catholic priest from certain death through the grace of God, and gave your life as a sacrifice for the salvation of your countrymen. Pray for us that we may have the courage to face the future, whatever it may hold, with faith and courage. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord,
    Amen

    Hi, Bevsue!

It's great to have you back! Thanks for taking the initiative and putting your oar in the water

I have never read "The Man Who Was Thursday", but have seen it advertised in quite a few Catholic book/video catalogs. I do agree that Chesterton was a brilliant fellow. I actually have a book of his pithy analyzations out from the library. I would love to read "The Ballad of the White Horse" when I get the chance. I just recently read Lord Tennyson's "Idylls of the King", so I'm in the mood! Has anyone else ever read that? It had quite a few Catholic references.

    Blessings,
    Pearl

Hi all - I'm back in the group after an absence and I have informed Pearl and now "youse guys" that much as I'd like to post here frequently, probably won't get to....but I will put my oar in the water- so to speak - when able!

Noticed a posting by AuditVocemMeam about The Man Who Was Thursday, but didn't get to the thread yet. Chesterton was/is brilliant and one of my favorites, so glad to see you are reading him! I have some pretty staunch Protestant friends who are quite impressed with him, which has lead to some lively discussion, and will hopefully bear some fruit.

So, glad to be back...hope I will be able to write more soon. Be blessed in Him! bev

G'day everyone, I can't believe I haven't been posting here as frequently as I'd like. Times are busy, you know?

It is the feast of St Thomas More. Truly his spirit lingered during the face of the reformation in England, while remaining King Henry's only real true friend, though Henry didn't see it like that. St Thomas did his utmost to prevent Henry from revolting, though in the end he did, and unwilling to leave the one true Church, Thomas died for the faith under Henry. So today, let us pray, St Thomas More, ORA PRO NOBIS!

Yesterday was the Feast of Corpus Christi. Let us all remember that Christ is really and truly present in the Eucharist, and act accordingly when we receive him at mass.

There is a story that a Protestant gentleman was sitting on his porch as his Catholic neighbors casually walked by on their way to mass. The Protestant commented, "If I believed what you Catholics believe, that Christ is truly present in the tabernacle of that church, I would crawl there on my hands and knees."

We must set a good example, and always use the utmost reverence when going in and out of church, and of course, when receiving the Blessed Sacrament.
