Everyone, I'm working on a project for another website about Catholicism in the Commonwealth Realms. Not focussing on the Commonwealth as a whole, but rather, the Catholics of the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc...

I need some help, and if anyone would be interested, could you please PM me? Thank you!

As always, Pearly, you are alert to Edmund Campion news! I hadn't even noticed the Jesuit connection with Pope Francis and Edmund Campion.

    Thankyou for reminding us!

    Hi Pearl,

Sorry I missed this post during Holy Week. I've tried to set up email notifications for posts from this group, but it doesn't seem to work.

That's exciting for Wyndysascha! I hope that his reception into the Church went well.

I will say a prayer of thanks.

    Hi, Edmundus!

Sorry for taking forever to get back to you!

So, who do you think really killed the Princes in the Tower? Richard III, Henry VII, or someone else? Or do you think they were never killed at all? I think it's pretty much up in the air, but I think it's fair to say that both Richard and Henry could be brutal when necessary, although I don't think either were mass murderers.

I heard from a friend that they planned on giving Richard III's remains an Anglican funeral and burial.....but that Catholics were putting up a fight and insisting that, since he was a Catholic king, he should have a Catholic funeral and burial! I was thinking that perhaps two funerals, one Anglican and one Catholic, might solve the problem. Do you know what happened?

Also, while we're in the "what-happened-to-such-and-such" mode, does anyone know what happened to the Glastonbury Thorn? It was hacked down by vandals back in 2011 when I first started this group, and it was one of the first topics we discussed! However, we never found out if it was grafted and replanted or what.....does anyone know?

    Blessings,
    Pearl

    Hi, Gang!

First, thank you, withnailand for posting that picture of the Irish Coast! Is that a real picture or a painting? Also, is it a picture of Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland? Please post some more if you get the chance!

As for me and my house , I finally figured out how to post pictures on this site myself!!! So now you can check out the bunch of "super Brits" I put up:

We've got Fr. Edmund Campion, Sir Thomas More, Gen. Thomas Gage, Maj. John Pitcairn, Sir John Moore, Flora MacDonald, Bishop Alexander McDonell, William Wilberforce, Queen Mary I, and King George III. To figure out who's who, go to my album; I've put captions there to help you sort them out!

    God Bless,
    Pearl of Tyburn

As far as I understand, Burma was under British rule until 1948, but it didn't become part of the Commonwealth. My history around that sort of thing is quite sketchy. The country has had a lot of problems with uprisings, military rule, human rights abuses etc in the past but I think they're working it out and moving towards a more democratic state now.

By the way, I have also learned how to sing "May It Be" and that haunting song Pippin sings in the third movie...."Home is behind/The world ahead...."

LotR/Pokemon?! That sounds kind of scary! What made you decide to merge those two themes together? Btw, how is the creative writing project going? Also, are you a college student?
Why LotR/Pokémon? Well I read a fanfic where they told Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with pokémon instead, and I decided to do the same thing with LotR. And yes, I am in college

Thanks for the tip! I've never read a whole Chesterton novel - only a few Fr Brown stories and an essay or two. He is a great writer!

It's not a miniseries, it's currently on season 2. You can view the first season on Netflix if you have it.

Hi, everyone! Happy Feast of St. Blaise! Sorry I haven't been around as of late.

Dakota, thanks for the Downtown Abbey mention. Is it a BBC mini-series? One neat movie I saw set in pre-war England was The Remains of the Day with Anthony Hopkins. Quite interesting, yet also very sad.

Anathama, that's terrific that you wrote credo settings for mass! I will pray that your writing endeavors will prosper for the glory of God! So, do you play the organ at church? I love the sound of the harpsichord! It sounds so old-fashioned. What sort of pieces do you play on it?

    God Bless,
    Pearl

Well I got the "credo" Mass settings done, just have to write them out. I submitted them to my priest and he liked the settings. We are going to use them in the Mass after I obtain the copy right for them.

    Greetings Pearl of Tyburn,

I play the piano and have done so nearly all my life. I sing, I can play the organ and the harpsichord as well. I compose and arrange music as well.

    I'll look into those bands.

    God Bless.

Sorry, Downton Abbey (no second w), set in pre-Great War England, superb in how historic they manage, it's a TV show that has the good, the bad and the ugly of the period.

On this Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade court decision in the USA legalizing abortion, please pray for all those who marched on Wahsington D.C. and who fight for the pro-life cause through the year.

Anathama, I'd also recommend Norland Wind as a good Celtic/Norse folk music band. Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band are pretty good too. By the way, do you play any instruments?

Dakota Roberts, what is your favorite Child Ballad? Some of them are pretty dark in content, don't you agree? I tend to think that the lyrics to "The Cruel Mother" touch on the issue of modern day abortion quite well. They are shocking, but revealing as well.

What is Downtown Abbey? A TV series? Music? What's it all about?

    God Bless,
    Pearl

The Child Ballads are collection of old British ballads.

Well, for a band Nox Arcana is fun. Alack, their albums tell stories meaning it is impossible to recommend one particular song, but I can recommend the album Transylvania, their website http://www.noxarcana.com/music.html

For other artists check out Basshunter (eurodance), Linkin Park (Rock) and Melissa M is pretty good (rap, R&B, pop en Français)

Pearl, have you checked out Downtown Abbey? It is marvelous in how accurate it is, the attention to detail is simply fantastic with it perfectly containing the good, the bad and the ugly.

    Greetings Pearl of Tyburn,

I have never heard of Loreena McKennit, but I shall go and check her out. I absolutely am fond of Celtic music. I like the Celtic Woman very much.

Hi, Loyal Views, Dakota Roberts, and Anathama Sit!

LV, that is so interesting about Dominic Savio and his love of England. John of the Cross, John Vianney, Ignatius Loyola, and Francis de Sales also held the British Isles special to their hearts and prayed for their conversion. Thank you for posting.

Dakota, I do know about a few of Child's Ballads. They were collected from old folk ballads in the British Isles. Some of them are pretty spooky, and quite a lot have to do with illicit relationships that end in tragedy like "The Cruel Sister," "The Cruel Brother", and "The Cruel Mother."

Anathama, as far as music I enjoy, I love British and Irish fok music, British monarchy/military music, bagpipe tunes, Baroque Music (G. F. Handel especially), and Gregorian Chant.

Have any of you ever listened to Loreena McKennitt, the Canadian singing sensation? She is one of my favorite artists. Her stuff is sometimes filed under "New Age" but also Celtic. I simply love the tune she put to Alfred Noyes's poem "The Highwayman." I also like "Dark Night of Soul" which she based off of St. John of the Cross's writings, and "Mummer's Dance."

Who are your favorite artists? Songs?

May favorite trad songs are "Donald and Flora", "Black-Eyed Susan", "Lochiel's Farewell," "The Twa Corbies," and "Fair Helen of Kirkconnell", just to name a few!

Huzzah, Anathama! Another Robin Hood fan from days of yore!

    God Bless,
    Pearl

P.S. I just put up a new post on my blog. Here's the link in case you want to check it out:

    Greetings Dakota Roberts,

I have not heard about dark ambient music. Care to give a few examples? Are there any exmaples of this stuff on youtube that I could check out?

    God Bless.
