Hi all !! I would love to learn more about the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and perhaps get involved. At present, I am not charismatic. Hard to get involved, I live in North Miami Beach, Florida, and all the charismatics groups within bus distance of me are held in either Spanish or Haitian Creole. I don't understand why English speaking Catholics do not have Charismatic Prayer groups where people like me can get involved. I would like to receive the "baptism in the Holy Spirit."

What I got the knowledge that Charismatics is not a new movement
    in a modern church.

The ancient church (after Jesus raised to Heaven) also did the activities
like what people usually do in Charistmatics gathering.

So Charismatics something like to bring up from the past to the present time.

I, Myself don't think that I am a Charismatics Catholics but I don't against it.

I have many experienced since the first time I came in to the gathering.
I have a new feeling about God, my understanding to God has broaden up.
For me God is a unique personality, and God is so kind, full of love.
God is much much bigger, stronger, kind, etc than what we can think, imagine
or what ever. God is very powerfull and much powerfull than we can imagine.
The Words in bibble are so a live, and they are not just a history klipping papers.

Those are some of the changes that I had since the first time I attend the gathering.

To me, Charismatics is not an offence to my Catholics believer, but it is light
up my devoted to God in my Catholics believers.

I may be wrong but why don't we sing more modern Christian worship and praise songs in mass..the old ones are beautiful..but alot of the new christian music is based on the psalms and today's issues we all face..I enjoy taking my mp 3 player to adoration to worship Christ thru music-(I go alone-no one is in the chapel w/me- we have perpetual adoration and I love my time w/Christ.

I was in a similar position . we had a pastor that didn't like Charismatics(even though 8 out of 12 members of the parish council were Charismatics)and though he never forbade us he said he wasn't comfortable with it. So we stopped evertyhing put ourselves under obedience and have waited many years.God answered our prays and has given us a pastor who may not thoroughly support us but does not try to hinder us.We have been graced with agreat and powerful prayer group to help people grow closer to Christ and His Church.
Hold tight pray and hope.Everything will work out for the greater glory of God- but I understand how you feel.Love and prayers-Julie

markfera- yes people have been healed during a healing service, but there is more then one kind of healing. The physical is the most spectacular , the mental is just as important, but not so visible.Spiritual healing is the most potent but the least tangible. These all can take place at a healing service especially when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed.A true miraculous healings contain all three elements.
Actually our healing Masses are few and far between. On a weekly basis this is what we do-we pray and praise. We start by praying opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit and His will for us.We sing songs of praise. Between songs some pray in tongues, some don't but we pray.We usually have a scripture reading and how that scripture relates to our life.We then speak about what God has done for us this week. Then we meditate-pray and praise again. We end with prayer and intercessions. If someone has a concern of any kind -mental,spiritual or physical- we lay hands on them and pray.I don't know what other groups do but in our archdiocese this is pretty standard. We don't showboat-no Oral Roberts stuff- that is what the directives are and we follow them.
Paul speaks of the "higher Gifts" Love being the first .But that doesn;t negate the other gifts of the Spirit. If Love of God, Church, and man isn,t your center then you have nothing.
Faith- we have it like many(hopefully all) Catholics. If we didn't-why would we pray and Praise?Hope we have
as members of the Church -hope in salvation by the God's Saving Grace through Jesus' sacrifice with the aid of the Paraclete. Love- If we didn't have it would we worship God? The Source of all Love.Would we pray and lay hands on others for healings of many ills?
Does the Charismatic movement increase Faith hope and LOve? you could ask that about any devotion, any ecclesial movement, evenMass.
Much has to do with individual person. No practice guarentees salvation- if you put nothing into it.God can't force us to believe, or hope, or love. It is an act of freewill on our part of how much benefit one gathers frompractices. Grace that is freely given- can also be freely rejected.
I feel it has much to do with complete and utter surrender on our part to the will of God and the Gifts He hands us in His Love.
No one denies the power of the Eucharist. We have it exposed during healing- if we didn't believe that it isthe source and summit why would we want to be in His Presence during our prayer meetings.
As far as 'feeling' or 'emotions' they are not dirty words. The Lord God created us with emotions- so that also makes it a Gift. But mind and Spirit are greater. Emotionalism can enter into any practice. The Flagallents during Holy week- the odd practices of different festivals of Saints- they can go overboard- way overboard.. If you have emotions by themselves unconnected to mind and spirit- I think that's where trouble comes in.
Is it wrong to feel emotion when receiving Christ? No-I have felt-grateful, joyous, happy, tearful,,healed in the Presence of God's greatest gift. Sanctifying Grace is part and parcel to the sacraments- but you can reject Grace. It is part of the freewill deal.
But if you trust God(another emotion)and accept His grace then the road to heaven is made a lot easier.
but again that depends on each individual soul.

Rosemary 238 states,'Baptism in the Holy Spirit has made us into better Catholics and given us an even greater love for the Church and its teachings." And its teachings is what I question?

Has anyone ever been healed at healing service or is it all just an emotional high? Paul said that the greatest gift os the spirit is love. Jesus said that the greatest commandments are to love god and to love your neighbor as yourself. besides love the other two superior gifts are Faith and Hope. Does the charismatic movement really increase your faith Hope and Love? In my opppinion you do not have to feel that you have had an experience, when you recieve the euchatist, the sum and summit of the christian experence, grace is infused into your soul and you grow in faith hop and love. am I wrong? am I missing something? thanks Mark

I have moved to KS from CT and miss the availability of prayer groups that allow the Holy Spirit to gift them for the body's blessing/instruction, etc. Also, I have not seen 1 ad in the paper/bulletins for a Life in The Spirit Seminar. I am a Senior and fairly well, but the years are starting to tell.
Are there any persons out there who have a Word to share?
