Autism awareness and support group

Hi, I'm 21 and I got a brother, Ryan (16) with Autism. I am Indonesian and live in Jakarta.. My brother currently attending normal high school, with less students and particularly got supplementary lesson from his teacher..
He is lack in communication, but have a very strong memory. He learned piano well, and could play computer, install the game himself without anyone taught him..
He got autism since about 2 or 3 yrs old and drilled with therapy ever since..
He could understand and hear of what we are saying, but always lost in his mind as well..
Please help me pray for him.. Thank you very much..

Maggielynne, was your daughter previously communicative or was she born with autism? Some cases are genetic, but not all. My friend's son has begun talking again after being non-verbal for sixteen years! She hadn't heard his voice since he was a toddler. Exciting time at their home!

Hi, I have a 9-year-old son with Autism and just looking for a Catholic place to meet others for support. We sure have our issues, but know God gave us our Drew for a reason.

Is anyone familliar with the son rise "treatment" program. I have heard great things about it (though I personally do not believe that autism can be truly cured) from what i have read the basics of the program sound a little new-agey to me. I was just wondering if anyone knows children who have gone through the treatment, or parents who have treated their own chidren with this program.

I am new to CAF. I am highly probable ASD/Aspergers. Once you get to 25 or 30 and are not a total wreck, Insurance thinks you are ok and don't need formal diagnosis. I have to settle for probabe status according to a Dr that diagnoses and treats Aspergers,
I have been working with an Aspergers Teen for a few years. about a year or so ago I got labeled as probable Aspergers. That explained why so many things I suggested for him worked. I was sharing my coping mechanisms. Now, he wants to "be his own man" and not be given solutions to his problems. I think this is healthy, but is very hard for me to adjust to letting him learn his way.
Comments and suggestions welcome.

Thanks Zsofia_A! I feel SOOOO guilty sometimes when times are trying with her. I try to remember that it's Asperger's I dislike, not the child herself.

Glad I now have somewhere to vent about my 11 year old stepdaughter who has Asperger's. It challenging, that's for sure!

Welcome Marsha, your grandson is a gift of God even if he lives in his own world, I am praying for him
