Yeah I have been liftin weights nearly all my life off and on. I'm an old duff now but can still pretty mush lift my all time personal bests. I think forcing the muscles to work to failure helps keep one from declining as they age.
I prefer free weights. I love the "big three" bench press, squats and deadlifts. Nothing like a set of 10 squats with as much weight as you can handle DEEP to make you feel like you did something. As I age thought I also like the machines. I feel I can work the muscles with less risk of injury.
Basicall, my thoughts are, it is all good! Muscles were meant to work. Work, means oversoming resistance. Keep i t up!! you'll be glad you did when you are over the hill .
