FYI - Around 1:00 a.m. past night some one came on line here and posted threats. He said that because I was erasing the Word of God that I was going to lose my first born child that night - that he would die by the edge of the sword.
To my knowledge, such threats have never happened here and the only moderator on was contacted and deleted the stuff. It was positively surreal. If you anyone ever has this happen, contact one of those with the authority to role up a thread quickly. Michael Francis did a great job of acting ASAP.
+1 Reputation Point for your avatar (the delete key one, in case it changes before this message is disposed). I get a kick out of it every time I see your posts
I opened up a new group called Texas Catholics. It's a kind a hangout place for those of us from the Lone Star State! Would love for you to join. Hey, when does A&M play?
I wanted to publicly thank you for your comments on the "death penalty" thread, particulary for your comment after my final post. I found them well reasoned and thoughtful. We did not agree on every point but you were gracious in allowing me to disagree. I love the photo on your posts; the little guy reminds me of my two grandsons, although they are not as angelic looking as yours.
I run a Catholic Evangelical Apostolate called "Catholic Society of Evangelists", my name is Robert. We offer apologetics CD's and books for $1.00 and less... www.catholic-soe.org We are not out to make money... just share the fullness of Truth! Pnewton, how about we record your conversion testimony and we (Catholic Society of Evangelists) can mass distribute your CD's so that people can come to know your journey home story? You can touch thousands of people with your testimony... if the Lord calls you to it.
I was raised a SouthernBaptist, educated at a Baptist University and Seminary and ordained a SBC minister. When I met my wife, who was Catholic, I tried to convert her to my theoloogical point of view. Indoing so I read both Catholic and Anti-catholic literature. I tried to find where the Catholic Church fell into apostasy and only to discover the continuity of the Catholic faith. When I tried to build an argument for the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist through scripture, I found myself believing in the possibility of this miracle. My ultimate conversion, though, came about through an understanding of the irrationality of Sola Scriptura. I realized the importance of belonging to the church that Christ founded and which the Holy Spirit guides. After accepting that fact, I knew even the tough doctrines to accept pointed to my lack of understanding.
This process happened over about four months (I am an obsessive reader). I never did get a chance to convert my wife. I entered the Church in 1998.
The books that were most helpful to me were "Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic" (David Currie), "Catholicism and Fundamentalism"(Karl Keating) and "By What Authority" (Mark Shea).
A Baptist for 35 years and did you see God; so to speak? Kind of unusual; makes me think their must had been something extraordinary happened to lead you to Catholicism...care to share a little?
