I have recently read that only humans have immortal souls. The back-up for this assertion is that only humans have rational souls. Strange how "immortal" suddenly becomes "rational." EWTN has an interesting article on this. It's patronizing and insulting to those who love animals and believe that God is omnipotent and omnibenevolent. It also has some logical fallacies. As far as I know, the Church DOES NOT teach that animals do not go to heaven. God certainly has the power to allow animals into heaven and, as they cannot sin, they are perfect. If they are perfect they do not even require purgation. In heaven all are perfect; why not animals, too? Denying that God has the power to allow His creations into His realm shows a lack of understanding of His power and love. Presenting that denial, veiled as Church teaching, will lead people astray - people who are requesting and deserving of the truth. Apologists defend the faith. They do not have the authority to change it.

DISCLAIMER: I am very poorly catechized and also have brain damage which affects memory and language processing. If I have stated anything that goes against Church teaching, please accept my apology and correct me. I mean no offense to anyone and I apologize if my language sometimes appears uncharitable. I'm trying my best to reverse the brain damage but I am not having much success.

Lord, thank you for sending Chippewa to me. I didn't want him, he was a pain, he sprayed, he yowled, and I had too many cats already. But now that You have taken NeNe (as is Your right and I know he is truly happy in Your care) I thank you from the bottom of my heart for You sending this little stray tom to me. I have learned to love him and he always smiles at me when he sees me. Blessings and gifts sometimes come in strange packages. I can't imagine life without my Chippewa now and I love him so much. Thank you for Chippewa, Jordan Jade, Kimberlina, Cranberry, Angel, Kaelan, and of course Sookie. Please take Sweet home; her person misses her so much. Thank you.

NeNe has gone to another place.
I miss the way that he would suddenly jump up and race,
knocking things over, with his pupils filling his eyes.
    Can you see me, NeNe?
Can you see the tears that fill my eyes?

NeNe, my little one, are you holier than me?
Do you still feel the pain from the bites and the teeth?
Have you really died? Or are you more alive than I?
NeNe, you're a star in the face of God's sky - a twinkling star
in the face of God's sky.

NeNe, you were never my property.
We all belong to God and that is as it should be,
but my love for you belongs to God, you, and me.
If you love me, NeNe - we can fill eternity.

NeNe, my precious one, are you holier than me?
Sometimes I feel the pain of the bites and the teeth.
Someday I'll die; then we'll light up the sky!
NeNe, we'll be stars in the face of God's sky,
bright glittering stars in the face of God's sky,
twin dancing stars reflecting the love in God's sky...

I love you, NeNe. Please forgive me...

I love your avatar pictures! I'm an animal lover myself- I have bunnies. Maybe you've seen the sign "Dogs have owners, cats have staff"? Well, Bunnies have slaves. LOL

He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep.
