I have recently read that only humans have immortal souls. The back-up for this assertion is that only humans have rational souls. Strange how "immortal" suddenly becomes "rational." EWTN has an interesting article on this. It's patronizing and insulting to those who love animals and believe that God is omnipotent and omnibenevolent. It also has some logical fallacies. As far as I know, the Church DOES NOT teach that animals do not go to heaven. God certainly has the power to allow animals into heaven and, as they cannot sin, they are perfect. If they are perfect they do not even require purgation. In heaven all are perfect; why not animals, too? Denying that God has the power to allow His creations into His realm shows a lack of understanding of His power and love. Presenting that denial, veiled as Church teaching, will lead people astray - people who are requesting and deserving of the truth. Apologists defend the faith. They do not have the authority to change it.
DISCLAIMER: I am very poorly catechized and also have brain damage which affects memory and language processing. If I have stated anything that goes against Church teaching, please accept my apology and correct me. I mean no offense to anyone and I apologize if my language sometimes appears uncharitable. I'm trying my best to reverse the brain damage but I am not having much success.
Lord, thank you for sending Chippewa to me. I didn't want him, he was a pain, he sprayed, he yowled, and I had too many cats already. But now that You have taken NeNe (as is Your right and I know he is truly happy in Your care) I thank you from the bottom of my heart for You sending this little stray tom to me. I have learned to love him and he always smiles at me when he sees me. Blessings and gifts sometimes come in strange packages. I can't imagine life without my Chippewa now and I love him so much. Thank you for Chippewa, Jordan Jade, Kimberlina, Cranberry, Angel, Kaelan, and of course Sookie. Please take Sweet home; her person misses her so much. Thank you.
