My thanks, roselily. This picture was one that my dad took of a tree at the parish church I attend in San Marcos, CA. These are the rare yellow forms of African tulip tree flowers (Spathodea campanulata. If you know what the "garden variety" tulips look like in your average American garden, then you can see how this tree got its "common" name.
